New Wheels - need help
 

Hello my friends, I need help with new pair of wheels.

I have a road bike with Zonda wheels.
I'm willing to make a investment an buy new wheels.

At first I was looking at a Fulcrum Racing Zero, then some saw a good price on a Cosmic Pro Carbon - aluminum/carbon wheel.

My question is in between Zero vs Cosmic Pro Carbon which one would you guys choose, since I already own the Zonda ?

Is there so much of a upgrade from the Zonda to the Zeros ??

A friend told me the Cosmic i'm looking at are heavy for climbing and all around use.

The Zonda is the better wheel of the ones you mentioned.

The Fulcrum Zero is the same as Shamal, right ?? I thought the Zero/Shamal are better than the Zonda. They have ceramic bearing, carbon hub, etc.
I wanted to achieve just a little better rolling on the flats. Everyone talks so much about the aero wheels, etc etc

No. it isn't better than the Zero. The Racing Zero is very similar to the Campagnolo Shamal, which is a couple of levels above the the Zonda. The Zonda is a very good wheel set but the Racing Zero would be lighter. Don't expect much improvement in rolling resistance from the ceramic bearings.What you might actually feel is snappier acceleration due to lighter weight

My friend, what about the Cosmic Pro Carbon ?? They are the ones with the aluminium brake track. Are they to use as all around wheels ?? For climbing etc ??

Which one do you prefer ?? Zonda / Zeros vs Cosmic Pro ??

Need Prestige gear or Just to get places? reads like bling is all Important.

Heavy and Climbing seem an oxymoron.. Sew-ups and Classic Tubular Box section Rims.

I can only give an opinion about wheels with which I am familiar. I own a set of Shamals. All I can say is that a set of wheels using different rim materials are unknown to me. Carbon rims are probably the future, but I think that disc brakes are what will make them an every day item

Shamals are just like the Fulcrum Zero's right ? My friends say Shamal / Zero are good for everything.

I have been riding my Shamals for 5 years now. I did a 100 km ride yesterday on them. Mine are the 2way fit version and I ride with road tubeless tires. I really like this setup, the tubeless tires ride as well as the larger tires on my other bike. I find that my road tubeless tires wear better than similar non tubeless tires on my other bike. When it comes to wheels with alloy rims and using rim brakes, Shamal/Fulcrum Zero wheels are about as good as it gets

Even if they're just for bling, the OP has every right to put whatever wheels he likes on his bike.

That is correct, but even if bling is important, you don't want to spend big money on something that may downgrade performance

There is 1/4lb total, both wheels, weight difference between Shamals and Zonda. I defy anyone to tell the difference riding these two wheels.

If your are happy with your Zondas just ride them for the next 10 years. Any performance benefit is purely bench, not real life.

BTW Fulcrums are Campy wheels marketed to people with Shimano gears because they feel weird buying Campy wheels.

Yes definitely, at least upgrade the bling.

I had a buddy that wanted deep wheels on his fixed gear...he spent $50 on them and they had to way around 10lbs. :crash:

If you like them, buy them. But neither will probably give you a measurable performance benefit unless you are riding time trials and are at the point where a second or two over 40 kilometers makes the difference in place.
