Need Help purchasing

Hi,
I ran across this deal while I was looking for my first road bike https://houston.craigslist.org/bik/5700978517.html

When I contacted him he without hesitation lowers the price significantly and now I feel that this deal is quite sketchy and I was wondering what I should look for when I go to see the bike and if this deal is true is this bike a good first road bike

Take someone with you.

As Fred suggested, take a knowledgeable cycling friend with you to check the bike and to make sure it fits.

Yesterday, you were looking for a touring bike. Today, you are looking at a criterion bike. What exactly ARE you looking for?

Listing says it's a "male bike".

Does that mean it lifts its rear wheel to pee..?

Bikepedia lists the Cannondale models from 1993 to the present. Funny thing is that if you google on "Cannondale R600 on Bikepedia" it shows the bike was made in 1993, 1996, and 1997-2004 but doesn't list 1995 as a year it was produced. '93 had downtube shifters (not there) and '96 had Shimano RX-100 STI Dual Control shifters. Looks nice for a 20+ year old bike.

Very pretty bike except for those rear dropouts ... I hate them. But as far as riding, I bet it would be light and quick. If it is well-maintained ... and those old Shimano brifters are supposed to be rebuildable.
