I'm Probably Going to Regret This
Well I was on ebay this morning as part of my morning ritual and lo and behold there was a full Ultegra 6800 groupset for 47.99 from China. I thought I know there is a 99% chance this is a scam but for $48 I will take a shot.
Since it was paypal insured I bought one.
What's the worst that can happen?

Worst case it's some counterfeit that you put on your bike and falls apart when you shift during a hard sprint. Or you decide to sell it instead and get in trouble for trafficking.

All good possibilities. Good thing it's insured by PayPal and I will get my money back.

When it fails to arrive after a few weeks, don't forget to file an Item Not Received case before the deadline expires (I think it's 30 or 45 days) or you're SOL. Why throw good money away. Doesn't matter if it's a new Ferrari or used BVDs with skidmarks, throwing $49 away on a deal that you know has to be bogus is still throwing $49 away....

Thankfully I can afford it and if I enjoy the gamble then what difference does it make?
I am very familiar with the way PayPal and eBay work and know how to get my money back if needed.
Till then I enjoy the thought of getting the deal of the century and reading your posts. Some are quite amusing.

If it sounds to good to be true it is. I doubt they are that ignorant to do a quick search to find the approximate value of this groupset. It's probably not in anyone's best interest to encourage Chinese scam artists by bidding on fake or misrepresented items.

I'm really dying to see what the seller's angle is. I mean, they must know that the buyer can get their money back on an INR or SNAD, which will count as a defect on the seller's accouint....which is not a good thing, especially with 0 feedback; not to even mention the negative feedback the buyer can leave. They're basically killing their account before they even get started, so i wonder what they are up to.

Look - we're long past time when "Made in China" meant junk. A very large percentage of carbon fiber frames come from there and no one seems to have any problem riding them though their nationality is usually hidden under a famous Italian name.

The MicroShift group is as good as Shimano and installs like the Ultegra 6700 though it shifts a bit differently.

Made in China doesn't necessarily mean junk, but counterfeit knockoff does and that is a very real danger in ordering super-cheap imitations from China.

Getting your PayPal money back from international transactions isn't quite as simple as it is domestically, while defects on his PayPal account aren't as damaging. Defects on his eBay account were/are trivial to overcome if you know how. You should basically expect caveat emptor to govern these transactions, with little or no leverage over the seller due to the venue.
