Heavy duty hubs for cycle trucks
 
I just recently bought a second shimono SLX 675 rear, bu tafter buildin git into a very nice wheel I discovered that i can not longer get bearing cone that fit.

so can any one tell me which 135mm wide hub with cartridge bearing are afordable, like nder 100$?? dream on. ok maybe I should hold out for a pull apart hub.... but of coourse they don;t make 135mm hubs so I will have to rebuild my frame as well....oh what fun capitalism is.

it should have 36 spokes so I can build it in to my new whell with Sapim spokes

The guys a the bike shop was telling me how the insane bike industry is making hubs to thrown out after just a few ride, using light oil inplace of greese, how can that be?

Maybe I need a custom made motorcycle hub, with a freehub body to hold my cassette.

Well, it ain't cheap but Velo Orange's Grand Cru touring hub is serviceable by hand. I built a wheel with one I found new on eBay for $110 a few years ago. At velo-orange.com they are $160.

It seem strange that you can't find replacement parts for a hub that is still in production. Maybe your LBS is lazy. Universal Cycle supplies many independent bike shops. Check items 12 and 13 in the list shown here. https://www.universalcycles.com/shop...s.php?id=51229 Of course, you can buy the entire hub for a little more than they want for the left and right cones. Shimano SLX Hub Rear M675 | Chain Reaction Cycles Check with Chain Reaction Cycles and see if they have the axle/cone set for a better price.

that is amazing, I had to pay more than that at amazon.....I am able to buy an axle set for only 23$ pluss tax and shipping?

well ti should last at least one year.

but I really need to do my research, find one tha the cartridge bears are not a special size so I an get them form the machine world.

unfortunatly I have to stay with 100 x 135 axle just ot use my BOB trailer.

That appears to be a manufacturer's error and not a failure.

I dout that they would take responsibility for that .... and I would not want to go threought effort to find out by trying another of the same size. By the way I do carry a lot of weight on my axles.

that would be nice, but the facts are that the damn thing actually measures larger than the one I used last year.
12.71mm rather than 12.31 last year and the original was 11.87mm

If it was a maintenance problem wouldn't you expect excessive wear and not what appears to be a melted spot at the very top of the cone? Usually I would guess that a lack of lubricant would simply gouge away the facing on the cone And I would also think that unless these cones were run loose as a goose that the ball bearings would never get anywhere near this section of the cone. And if the cones WERE that loose the facing of the cone would be abraded everywhere wouldn't it?

I say a manufacturers error for the following reason:

These components are machined from bar stock to the finished shape and then oven fired to harden the bearing surface. (You could also use cheaper steel and case harden them but they would wear rapidly.) This leaves the possibility of the top being machined too thin and the piece melting when fired. I would expect it to look as that does.

That method of failure is very common on hub cones. The reason it seems to be concentrated in one spot is that the axle does not move during use and the wheel is only loaded in one direction. I have seem many many cones with similar damage from all sorts of hubs.

so the velo orange grand cru uses japaneese bears, so I better buy at leat two dozen if I want to use this hub the rest of my life. The bigest proble is that a wide flange hub crossing 4 spoke will be a bugger.

running down the bearing for hte grand cru is a hellava bieeeetchy....
lest I loose this again: EZO 6000RU bearings. 28 mm OD, 15 mm ID, 6.95 mm thick
with black contact seals...no photos available

ATB Rear Hub #h48-XX http://store.velocityusa.com/p/atb-rear-hub but of course they dont want you to know the size of the flanges.....

OK, then either the axle has insufficient strength and is bending or the axle is bent already. While I can't say that I've ever seen a cone failure anything like that I don't ride bikes that are heavily loaded.

Whenever I've encountered cones that have been seriously loose what I noted was bearings hammering spots into the bearing races all the way around the cone. These are very distinctive.
