Superman chases Fred on MUP
I decided to go on a kicked back 25 mile ride today on the MUP
I was riding, minding my own business when all of a sudden,Superman was 20 feet behind my wheel.I sped up and moved right but he must have mistook this move as a challenge.I continued trying to get out of his way but he was dead set on making a race of it.
I took off, knowing the end was near....After a brief jaunt of several miles,I KNEW he had enough.I slowed to cross at the end but I guess he was too embarrassed to talk about it and road off.
That's what they get for messing with Fred!
Oh well, another lovely day on the MUP.....
A simple hello works GREAT!

I've crossed guys on the greenway two dozen different times before they'd finally acknowledge and return a hello

I had the opposite happen yesterday . . .
I was riding around the ring road in the city park which is a nice car-free loop with a small climb just about a mile around. I often see local racers and other club members here, and sometimes we have a go of it for fun, especially sprinting on the small hill. I came across another rider on my lunch ride yesterday who was riding in the wrong direction and scoping out literally every cyclist as if he was looking for his mark. He was shod in full vintage kit, complete with cycling cap jauntily tipped at a rakish angle, but seemed to have left his cycling shoes at home (a small detail, he must have thought). He was, of course, riding a fixed gear bicycle.
After passing him heading backwards several times, I became annoyed with his constant sizing up. I turned around and began chase. I held steady tempo and was able to run him down in about half a lap. I attacked softly, with a simple "hi" as I rode by, and I knew he would give chase. I put a considerable gap on him with very little effort, but when we reached the bottom of the climb (as we were riding it backwards, and didn't actually climb it) I turned to see him pedaling furiously downhill, attempting to close the gap I had created. I allowed him to get within 30 yards or so, when I picked the pace back up to tempo and he started falling back fast. After about 1/4 mile of this I looked back and he was nowhere to be found. I caught a glimpse of him pulling off at the concession stand, casually trying to appear as if he hadn't given up after pathetically giving chase for only a few hundred yards.
I actually caught up with him at the stand a lap later and made some small talk, and he was nice enough and we laughed it off. Had I not initiated the convo however, he would likely have pretended like he never saw another cyclist out there. Such is the competitive nature of the Super Fred.

So you're "the one" Superman was talking to me about. He said he wanted to say hello to this rider but could not get close enough since he already had 110 miles in that day and had nothing left after chasing you down. WELL MAYBE NEXT TIME.
