Exactly, this is what drives all those people in all sports to dope...MONEY, which in Latin is correctly translated as greed, the love of which is the root of all kinds of evil. Money itself is not inherently evil, in fact there are a lot of people in the Bible who had vast fortunes and they were not evil, thus it isn't money that is evil, it's when that money turns people into being greedy is where the problems occur, which then makes man misuse the money and/or misuse on how it's obtained.

If you remember my earlier post where I mentioned my girlfriends cousin the pro tennis player who wanted me to dope, I mentioned I didn't want to do it due to the uncertainties of long term health issues. If that uncertainty of heath issues was absolutely zero chance of anything happening ever, I'm not sure back then if I would have had the willpower to avoid it and started using it! Just being honest with you guys. I would like to think that I would have still turned it down, but I was also a lot younger with less common sense, looking for a way to make money to live in the expensive coastal region of Southern California, I'm not really sure what I would have done especially since I did reasonably well racing and I loved the sport and the thrill of it and wanted to excel.

I knew a lot of guys back in the day that were doing stuff and all they were cat 3 racers, some went on to better things but some didn't because no matter how much doping some of them did they just would never be a great rider. And part of my thought process back then was, sure I could dope and excel at cat 3 but would I just be an average or less rider once I went past that level? I didn't know the answer to that and I'll never know, but I do know one thing, I'm glad I never doped.

How about we leave the rest of the doping talk to the "professionals" part of the forum?

Did you guys not see this request? Start a new thread about doping so that your debate doesn't get this one closed.

Getting back to the subject, I've said this before, but Strava is as much about ego as anything else. Ego is a valuable commodity, and people will do whatever they do with tangible wealth -- either cautiously cultivate it, or flaunt it while they have it, then try to build a false image it when they run out of flaunt.

Strava is the avenue for many riders want to demonstrate their ego on Strava. Others use Strava as a means to build their personal value by keeping the data for comparison.

Despite our ageist poster's assertion, I have been using Strava for quite a while, but it's for my personal use, and my own data is locked. By the same token, I am not a slave to the data, but it sure enables me to compare where I am this, for example, randonneuring season compared with the last one.

I've done enough in my life -- personal and cycling -- to know that my ego doesn't need stroking with kudos acclaim. And because I am secure in my own being, I don't care whether people like chaadster believe what I do in cycling -- because when it's important, the events are pretty carefully controled and the results are published outside Strava anyway.

Can Strava detect an E bike?
