That's the air reservoir for my Air Zound air horn. There was enough space between the rack stays and between the rack and fender that that became a perfect spot for it - it's completely out of the way there.

26 mile mountain gravel and road on the mountain bike. A hot 65 F and humid here in Eastern Va. I have to remember to bring my slap bag to carry the smarty phone so I can take pictures.

Just 10 miles for me today. The 5 miles to the site took about 40 minutes. 68 year old cancer survivor with a bad knee, and riding my single speed flat bar roadbike. A number of hills, headwinds, short walk of shame, a couple quick stops for some water. This, for our weekly group I call the Chess Geezers. But, that ride home! Lots of downhill rifing, and the same route takes just 15 minutes. Fun as can be, like an amusement park ride. Both hubs are nicely greased, so it glides really well. FUN!!!!

Finished the year off strong. Ended up with a total of 8800km on the year, 3800km more than my original goal and 800km more than my revised goal that I set later in the year after I blasted past my original goal. 10 000km next year?

I rode 11.1 miles with 882 feet of climbing yesterday. Such a modest distance but we have to start somewhere.

12k Today. I'll finish the year at 420k. (actually since June) My first year on a bike and given all of the lessons to be learned, gear to be got and motivations to be made, I'm happy with the result. And so...tonight. TONIGHT shall be applewood smoked ribs, cornbread, baked beans and strawberry salad!
Happy New Year everyone!!!!!!

62 Miles O.D. Can officially say I've two wheeled it on the very last day of the year in Michigan. Was raining for most of the ride... cold cold cold rain.

32 miles today. Mostly sunny, warming to 60 deg F so just about perfect. The usual winds of 10-15 mph. I saw most of the regulars (cyclists and runners) out on the various trails.
Here’s a couple of shots along the Katy just north of the I-70 crossing at Rocheport.

Welcome to the 4K club! You are now a proud underachiever like myself. It’s a very small but unprestigious club.

Wound up 2021 with a final 50 miler, which incidentally means 100 in the past week, a notable uptick in "slow season"
Our local road cycling club has a new year's day tradition of riding the noon temperature in Fahrenheit in miles, but between predicted rain and the realization that I'd be hard pressed to keep up with roadies on my hybrid (nevermind the unicycle that I find more fun) I decided to do my own solo ride on 12/31 instead. Cautiously configured it as a big loop west of home, and then optional continuation east, and ended up going for the option - it got dark and I turned on my lights, ended up running out a fall on a tree root crack (successfully staying on my feet) and began my cautious way back in, realizing that the goal of 45-47 miles was not only achieved, but making it a 50 was plausible. Ultimately ended up having to pass by the route to home a second time and cruise a mile back up the trail to round out the distance before heading for home.
Managed to see just a glimpse of NYE fireworks through the fog before I turned onto my street.
Stats wise, a lazy mere 1400-1500 miles this year. I could be proud that this is notably more than I drove, but realistically the just over hundred miles of it which was actually utility cycling that replaced car trips is outweighed by the roughly 200 car miles that specifically supported my cycling: getting rescued once, getting driven to the start of a one way ride, and a couple of trips to buy craigslist bikes, parts, and an exercise bike...
