Weight loss is not my issue so I prefer to ride for intensity rather than distance. I've gone into the low 60s but it was not a pleasurable experience since I live in the city with all its broken roadways and other vehicle hazards.

Besides, with a drain like that (exhaust emissions, near missed, pickup trucks, etc.), after approaching 4 hours in the saddle I've reached my comfort limit. At that point, it all goes down hill very fast.

After a very easy 15 miles around town, I went out and did 10 miles as fast as I could. Not bad by my standards. Definitely my fastest 10 miles this year.

I've been seeing the number 444 a lot for the past few months! Today it was this post (post #857 ). Yesterday I was in my neighbor's garage and I happened to glance at his digital alarm clock and it was 4:44. The day before that I noticed I had ridden 14.44 miles on my hybrid. This is so freakin' weird!

I like the heat. Well, to be honest, I fare a lot better in the heat than I do in the cold.

You must be rather young. When you get on up in years, the heat has a much harsher affect on ya. For example, I went 62 miles yesterday on relatively flat ground, but in the scorching heat it felt worse than a 100 mile ride with plenty of elevation.

Really saps your energy.

1 mile. Yes, today I rode the grand whopping sum of one mile. After replacing the rear tube and tire because of a flat due to glass, and after truing the rear wheel a smidge, I took the Roam-2 out for a 1 mile ride just to make sure everything was kosh.

Only 30 miles on that bike this year and I had 2 cuts in the tire due to glass where heathens had thrown down bottles on the street!

Foot Problems

Been riding for over 20 years and this year i started experiencing a burning type of pain on my right foot after 30 miles of riding. It's on the bone on the side of my foot right below my little toe. I'm using the same kind of pedals that I have used for many years, I tried putting a pad on it but seemed to make it worse on a 50 miler Saturday. Has anybody ever had this problem and what did you do for it? And have tried other shoes but had the same problem with them.

Insufficient data. Are you referring to a) a sensation of burning inside your foot, or b) a burning due to friction from your foot rubbing against the inside of your shoes?

If its "b" then its a common occurrence that can typically be improved by better shoe/sock combination. However, you must first address the cause. In my case, I had developed a callus on the outer part of my left sole on the bone that had to be removed by doctor.

The pain wasn't constant but would hit in waves (during the power stroke) of excruciating pain. The doctor just used a scalpel to shave it down. After that, I was issued shoe inserts and the pain went from 10 to 0.

Thanks for the info, sounds like B pain doesn't persist after done riding. But it doesn't feel like I have that much callus, I have tried a new pair of shoes and that didn't make any difference, and tried different pedals and same result. So I guess I will have go the doctor way, did you go to a foot doc ?

It was a referral. But the procedure wasn't really anything that complex.
