I'm running a set of ZIPP 404 wheels, with Conti 4000 Grand Prix tires, and I must say, its a PITA to mount these tires on my Zipp wheels. Is this common? I got a flat just the other day and it took me a good while to dismount and mount my tire back onto the wheel, ugh...

GP4000's have always been tight for me on anything until they have some miles on them. I'll mount them with butyl tubes and ride a few rides before switching to latex to loosen them up. The only time I've ever torn a latex tube was on a pinch point trying to install brand new GP's. Unlike Vittoria Open Corsa which fall on the rim when new lol.

Contis fit tightly. I consider that a safety factor. If you get a flat, a tight-fitting tire won't come off leaving you to ski down the road on your rim.

Love my conti's, but yea, I understand what your saying. I've got a set of Rolf Prima wheels, and the tires go on fairly easily compared to my Zipps.

Buy a VAR bead jack and throw it in your kit. There is zero reason to struggle trying to mount a tire by hand.

Reads like they are impractical out side of racing, Or , were you racing ?
I have 2 I use for tight skinny tires, moving them towards each other..
