Rinat Aruh lock design, NY Times Magazine

I enjoy looking at industrial design (though I'm no good at it myself, I never got the education in the art side of it). Therefore I keep an eye out for cool designs of furniture, appliances, etc. This is why I was interested in the Shimano Metrea groupset, for example. It had looks.
In this article, one of the featured items is a bike lock. The designer has taken the basic function of a U-lock and packaged it instead as a complete oval. It doubles as a seat-post-mount rack, each half of the oval locking into either side of a bracket. It's a steel sheath with a titanium core to keep the weight within reason. The inside is rubberized It also has all the trendy Kickstarter bluetooth GPS keyless crap, but then it has to in order to be chic! Obviously this would cost too much to bring to market, but it seemed cool to share.

They will steal the bracket while the bike is locked up.
And what's the deal with the website? I thought something was wrong with my monitor or my eyes. Do I have to sign up or pay something to get it to appear clear?

I like the idea. I always thought that carrying a big heavy U lock was inelegant. Breadwinner cycles did something interesting with their porteur bike but again it stuck out like a sore thumb.
I think this idea still needs a little work but in principle it has something going for it.
