new tire question
I have a road bike that I want to make into a confort bike so I want to make the tires wider, but I know nothing about bikes, on the tire it says reccommended 100psi max 110 psi (7.0BAR 690 KPa) Maxxis 700X22C c-1115-1. What is the max size tire that I can use?
|
Hi,
The typical thing with a tire too big is that it will rub against the frame and won't turn. Not good. That depends entirely on the frame. Which bike do you have, and is there some space above the tire that a bigger tire could use? Take it to a bike shop and ask, they'll know. |

Well, he answered your question. Take it to a shop, because we can't tell you without seeing it.

How can I tell for sure what the biggest size tire I can put on is?
|
The limit is set by tyre clearance at the brakes and the rear chainstay bridge. Have a look and see how much room you have spare.
If you have a typical racing bike you will be able to fit 25mm easily, and possibly some narrower 28mm. Different makes vary widely in their actual width even if they have the same designation. |
There is not very much room... would these fit? http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...eid=&pagename=
|
Probably not. BUT we CAN'T know that. Looking at the picture, I doubt you will get anything bigger than a 700x25c on there.
Either take it to a bike shop, or get a 25c. If there is room for something larger than a 25, you can go larger when you replace them. |
