Helmet won't do squat for you if you fall. I see 3 possibilities here:

1. It's fake
2. There are off-camera safety measures like a harness and ropes
3. The guy is a complete idiot

I'd be more inclined to believe it if they showed a full side shot as well...

It was real enough. He was roped-off; whether adequately or not is an entirely separate question.

Didn't say it wasn't real, said I'd be more inclined to believe it with another angle, which you provided.

Thanks...

Sorry ... didn't intend to be contrary! I meant "It was real enough"

I vote for #3. GoPro has spawned a fair share of them.

I had a feeling there might be a rope - thanks for that post.

Funny thing was it looked like the bike was roped off and not the rider. That would have been tragic/funny - the guy falls - bike gets saved.

his belayer wasn't well anchored, to say the least. that could have been a very interesting situation if he'd gone over...sort of like roped simul-climbing. sort of.

Unimpressed with stupid dangerous stunts. If/when he meets a tragic end are we all supposed to be sad and mourning our loss? Safety gear can and does fail.

I'll be very happy to cheer for him should he contribute something (almost anything) meaningful. Sorry.

This is just like tight rope walking only on a bike. Has been done before, it will be done in the future.

"Stupid dangerous stunts" to some and not others. Wonder what Nik Wallenda would think?

Standing on a balcony 10 stories up holding tightly on to the railing and looking down I get queasy, but 40,000 feet up looking out an airplane window with a bit of aluminum between me and terminal velocity does squat.

thats why i hate flying, in the end this is just what we did as kids going to school; try to do wheelies while riding on the edge of the curb ps youre more likely to die after taking a relaxing bath then while riding a bike on a metal rail next to a cliff, just so you know

Got that covered cause I don't take baths. So I'm in trouble since I only shower.

Yeah... If he'd actually fallen the belay probably either goes with him, or face plants into the concrete. They really needed a belay with a car or dual rope anchors to the concrete blocks.

Belay from below works because the person below has to be lifted straight up, pulling horizontally is MUCH easier. And even then it requires that the person below is roughly equal or heavier.

I think there was always a fair number of idiots before GoPro and similar action cams came along. They just provided an easier and more convenient way to record them.

As a fan of Danny Macaskill and Chris Akrigg (as well as the now-crippled Martyn Ashton, sorry, dude), I'm used to seeing stuff like this. SO WHAT if he has a safety rope? He BALANCED ON THAT EDGE the whole way!

I had pucker factor just WATCHING it.
