I think this is the best bike site I've been on. One question how do I upload pictures to the site. I have a Raleigh RSW 16 and would like to see if anyone else may know more about this bike?

Go Advanced - Manage Attachments - Choose File (from your PC/device) - Upload - Close Window - Save

Let us know approx. year of bike. What has Google yielded so far ?, as that's the first search I do.

Ditto to what Homebrew01 said. Most forums severely limit your total uploaded content. Otherwise, they'd become defacto photo-hosting sites. But if you use a real photo-hosting site, you upload them there and link to them in your posts. I use Photobucket, too. Expect a few ads in their free accounts, because they make their money by selling you prints of your pics.

right, just keep in mind that the file can't be too big or the upload will fail, & the msg doesn't say the file was too big, you might get a "security" error

I like to edit the images so they are a decent viewing size at 100% remember screen resolution is only 72dpi

another tip - it helps to name your images relative to what it's a photo of. here's why - when you go to your user CP (control panel) (see top left black bar) & select "attachments" under "miscellaneous" from the left margin list of choices, it will bring you to a listing of all your uploads. (you can click show thumbnails at the bottom of the attachment page, but it doesn't work) naming the pics carefully helps you find a particular picture

you can then go back to an old thread, or re-use one of those images in a new thread w/o uploading it again (by copying the url & pasting it in a thread using the insert picture tool (the yellow square w the mountain icon)

At the bottom of the upload screen you see when you click on "Manage Attachments" there is a chart listing max files sizes for different formats.

thanks but that doesn't seem accurate, for example this image is 684 x 1014 & my computer says it is 364 KB so many ways this pic should not be uploadable but it works ... I wonder if BF resizes images at all. I noticed sometimes when I upload more than 1 image they don't appear smaller, actually, as this one does

684x1014 should be at least 1.2M file size, if your computer says it is 364kb then it has jpeg compression in play. I do not believe BF resizes images. Of late I have been taking pictures with my iphone, uploading them to my PC and then uploading the .jpg to BF. My iphone gives me four sizes of filesize to send to my pc. The biggest is over 2M and the smallest is about 114kb. I usually select the next larger size from 114kb to upload. I forget what that is but the resulting image is just a tad larger than the images in your last post. The resizing that the iphone does is entirely by jpeg compression. A photo editor can also reduce the file size by 'cropping' the image. A cropped image will not show all of the image that was present in the original, but the file size will be smaller. If you use a file hosting site like Picassa or Flickr (or PhotoBucket) you would upload the largest, highest quality file that your camera can take. Then when you want to link your photo to BF you select one of the smaller file sizes (you will be offered a choice) and the photo host site will do the jpeg compression to the desired reduction. It is actually easier to do than to describe.

I use Google chrome and adblocker so my photobucket is real fast without ads.

If I go to IE, it's a real drag even with adblocker.
