What does LBS stand for?
i see it in posts but don't know what this stands for
|
Local Bike Shop
|
Some posters would argue that it stands for "Lying Bull Sh_tters". There seems to be a lot of animosity towards LBSs on this board. I have to admit that I sometimes feel the same way towards a few of the LBSs in my area.

Little Bike Shop makes LBS soudn more quaint. |
yeah local bike shop.
just remeber some shops are better than others. Out here I found one shop that really left me upset over service charges...then the next shop I found didnt stock anything for roaddies...oh well, onto the next one. |
I love my LBS. Good as gold.

It's kinda neat how the LBS concept exists in cycling ..... maybe if we were all walkers we'd talk about our LSS (local shoe store) but we're all essentially drivers in the USA anyway and there sure isn't the same feeling of attachment towards local auto machanics or Pep Boys/Kragans. Maybe it's because bike shops are relatively quiet, usually friendly, and social places. And bikes are so "human scale", you can have the mechanic at the LBS work on the bike, or do it yourself, and they'll often show you how it's done. You can meet riding buddies at the LBS and run into old friends, find out about local rides coming up, etc. Yeah sometimes the closest LBS has a jerk working there, or worse, a jerk running it, but compare LBS's and "car places" (dealerships, shops, parts places) and it sure shows the difference between bike and car culture.

He did too much LDS back in the 60s... |
I usually say GFYAD to certain elements of traffic here, namely fools in cars worth less than my bike by about half, that spew out black smoke, and insist on passing me, then slowing down and fogging me out.
...pity florida has some very lax emissions laws. Note it's also only one person....but I will have that day where I can manage to throw something nice and stinky into the car.....it may be a year or two from now...but yes, it will happen...muahahahahahaha. |

Rock On Steve W Thats the one. I couldn't remember all the words, or I would have posted them. I love the tune, of course it recieved alot of flack for the use of LSD in the song. |
