problem
I store my bikes in the basement. My garage is in the basement which is my area of the house. between lawn and garden equipment, tools and bikes I am running out of bike room I have two incoming bikes and I will be out of storage with out stacking stuff. Ain't a bad problem having things you want, but it is a problem .

Take over a room in the house for the bikes.

Get rid of the lawn and garden stuff.
|
Priorities man, put them in the shower & bedroom...
|
No, put the lawn & garden equipment in the shower & bedroom.

My Grillo walking tractor is as important as my bikes
|
You need a bigger house. Or, a bigger garage.
|
Have you tried hanging the bikes from ceiling hooks? I hang each of mine on a hook holding the rear wheel, so the bike is vertical. They are in the dining room, but nobody uses it for dining anyway. They can be mounted surprisingly close together.

I have hung bikes on ropes from the garage roof trusses. An easy way is to hang each bike from 2 looped ropes--one for the handlebars and one for the saddle. You don't even need hooks--just knotted loops in each end of the ropes. Also, racks are available that lean against the wall and hold 3 or 4 bikes in the footprint of 1 bike. I bet there are even DIY videos on youtube for making your own leaning rack. |

Buy 1 less bike, sell the tiller, hire a gardener, and spend more time riding.
|
You can always park the car out in the driveway......opens up space for at least 6 more bikes.
|
Hmmm that tiller looks like something I need,,,, but yeah get the car out of the garage that's where the bikes go,,,
|
I used to do a garden but then I realized my wife was giving all the orders and I was doing all the work. Sold the tractor, sold the tiller, and had a lot more time to ride bikes, kayak, race boats, and other fun things.
|
I have to agree with the OP- lawn equipment is as important or more important than bikes! (Quite frankly, I enjoy mowing eith my tractors more than I enjoy riding my bikes)[Am I banned yet?]
Some items are just not expendable: Dogs; Tools; mowing equipment; reference books (Less so now with the interwebz, but some are still indispensable).... But there is one thing that is not only expendable, but which is ridiculously expensive to maintain; does not age well; constantly makes a lot of noise; is a source of constant frustration; and will likely cost you at least half of everything you have, sooner or later. Something which takes up immense storage space (and always the best in the house, while relegating your stuff to the cruder areas) and complains incessantly when you fart. Can you guess what it is? (Get rid of that, if you have one, and life will be sweet! Seriously!) |
Your wife wouldn't appreciate hearing that.

Gardening is bad for the environment. Fertilizers and herbicides leech into groundwater and causes algea bloom in the coast line. The exhaust from your lawnmower and tiller are worse than from any automobile or motorcycle. Go native. Replace that imported grass with native grass and let the weeds take over.
Problem solved. |

When I was a kid we had an old Planet Jr. my Dad called "The Mankiller" He finally gave up on it and got a 9N Ford.
Storing bike in the garage. I have a 15-20 ft piece of 2" pipe spanning the rafters near the eaves with S bent rebar hooks with rubber hose on them and can hang about 8 bikes out of the way of the car. I do need to pull one bike down to use the drill press or table saw. My lawn tractor has plenty of room underneath. |

I don't want to hang bikes as I plan to ride everything I have at least occasionally If it doesn't get ridden I need to put it in the hands of some one who will . I have a surly LHT Surly Steamroller Electra loft 1 Univega Mtn bike converted to a drop bar with urban tires Gravity deadeye monster S.S. fatbike 80ish Huffy 3 speed made in the town I graduated in I will pick up tomorrow a mint 73 Raleigh sport And my lovely wife ordered me a bike from bikes direct that is coming in a week Moving stuff around to make room is what started this thread |
Depending on overhead clearance a folding or stacked bike rack cold be an option.

Are you able to put your lawn/gardening equipment on the walls? If you can't hang things from the wall, perhaps make a cantilever rack out of 2x4s?
http://www.bikeforums.net/data:image...EAREQBERAf/9k=http://www.bikeforums.net/data:image...EAREQBERAf/9k= I've also seen bike racks in stores where the bikes are stored on the wall, tires to the wall. Then the hooks that are holding them to the wall rotate like a gate hinge. Similar to what you see in this picture: http://cdn.grindtv.com/wp-content/up...Folded-WEB.jpg or https://cdn.modernbike.com/Product_I...7e50ec4e72.jpg |
