CAAD12 vs Synapse Carbon vs BMC GF01 (2016)

So I am deciding between the bikes, and i know CAAD12's position is more aggressive than the other two choice, so I'd like some first hand experience/suggestion if the position is very different.

My Longest Rides would probably be 50-60 miles tops
My usual rides just about 15-20 miles
Budget: ~3000 USD
Groupset: 105 is good enough for me.
I am used to 48/32 chainrings, have some rides on 50/34
I've been riding the Diverge
I am looking for Disc brakes.

So currently my choices are:

CAAD12 105 Disc + Fulcrum Carbon wheels (my only concern is the 52/36 crankset)
Synapse Carbon Disc 105
2016 BMC GF01 Disc 105 (my LBS has one left at a 20% discount since it's last year's model)

I have a Synapse alloy tiagra that I rode on and off for about two years. I bought a CAAD12 this past August and fell in love. The difference in position isn't that much different. I did end up getting a fit done, but that was more about me getting serious about riding my bike more. I'm looking to sell my synapse now. Mainly because it is so heavy, at 23lbs it is a monster compared to my 17lb CAAD12. Overall I didn't think the synapse was bad, I felt cramped up by the geometry. The CAAD12 geometry suits me better, and I like the feel of a lighter bike more. If you can try and ride both I would say do that. If not, I would push towards the CAAD12

I test rode a Synapse when I was shopping last August. It felt OK, but the CAAD12 felt so much better. I don't think I can put it into words. Smoother? More agile? More on fleek? Fleekier?

The 52/36 works great for me, but I live in a very flat place. I've been on some hills where I had to drop to the small chainring, but I've never come close to running out of lower gears.

By adjusting the seat on the seatpost and getting the appropriate stem, you can achieve the same position on these or pretty much any reasonably sized bikes.

Never ridden any of those bikes, but the CAAD12 seems to be universally regarded as a great bike, and the best aluminium bike, period.

That being said, I really like BMC bikes so I'd say test ride the GF01 and see if you like it. It is also very well regarded.

so today, i went to the LBS with the BMC for size fitting, it seems like the GF01 they had left that's 51cm is too big for me... which is a shame. my inseam is 77cm, and i am about 167cm tall (i only got measurement and didn't actually get on the bike, since they didn't want to assemble it...). I ride a 52cm Specialized Diverge right now and I thought the 51cm will fit me, guess not ;x...

I really wanted the BMC , I was gonna get the Roadmachine as a back up, but I just can't get over the color for 105, it's too gaudy that bright neon red orz...

So, by default I went with the CAAD12 DISC 105. It should be coming by the end of next week (hopefully), and I ordered the SAVE PLUS carbon seat post with it as someone suggested in another thread, so it should absorb some of the road noise ;x I'll report back!

Also, i heard the MADDUX wheels are pretty crappy for the 105? I was thinking of upgrading with the Hunts disc wheels. anybody have experience with them? I am looking at the hunts 4season disc, and the hunts aero light disc

They seem to be like pretty close except for about 120g difference. will i notice it in real life?

Yeah the BMC bikes geometry is quite different from other bikes. What they bill as a 51 fits really more like a 54.


As for the wheels: I dont know about those particular stock wheels, but in general, stock wheels are not great, pretty heavy. Especially in a more affordable bike like the CAAD12, they will cheap out on the wheels. The CAAD frame is really good though, so worth upgrading the wheels for.

For the Hunt wheels: Will you notice 120g difference? Probably not. You would notice the difference between 1800g and 1400g, but not between 1450 and 1550g I think. If the price is much higher, or you live in a flat area, go with the slightly heavier wheels.

That being said, if the price is not that much higher, I would still go with the lighter wheels. If you dont, you might feel that itch to invest in lighter wheels in a couple months.

Thanks for the suggestion! I went ahead and ordered the 4season Hunts wheel that's 1585 in weight. Since the lighter set that's 1465 is like April Wk4 delivery Hopefully my LBS will get the bike soon! i'll report back when I get to ride it

Got my CAAD12 Disc 105 today from the shop! Woot! just rode about 10 miles on it, and it was great! Although I did some upgrades. Compare to my Aluminum diverge, the ride is much smoother over the same bumpy pavements I've ridden for the past couple months!

Wheels: Hunts 4season Aero
Seat Post: SAVE PLUS Carbon
Saddle: Pro Griffon Carbon
Rotors: Shimano RT-99 Icetech Rotors, 140mm
Tires: Conti GP4000S II

One thing though, there seems to be a slight chainrub when I am using 36T(front) and about 19t-21t+ in the back... about the 7-8th cog.... I am already on the trim... ;x anybody have any experiecne with the 105 on a 36/52 and 11-28t setup?
