Coors Classic bike races.

Is there anyone here besides me that wishes we could have the return of the Coors Classic bike races?

I think I attended at least 5 of them in the mid 80s.

And yes it is me Rydabent that loves bents and trikes that is wishing for the return of those races, they were great to watch. I got to meet and talk to many of the cycling greats of the mid 80s.

That would be so cool! I just think the sport is too small in the U.S. to get the support. Best I get is the Tour of Utah that luckily passes right by my house. Like literally!

This was shot from my yard, tough time covering the tour, LOL!

In 1982 I accompanied Mike Neel to the CC where he was the coach of the Mengoni/Sidi team, Steve Bauer, Wayne Stetina, Alexi Grewal Jacques Boyer, David Meyer-Oakes. I didn't have an official role, I was just the friend of the coach and I was there, and I was pressed into service, feeding, pumping tires, driving the team van, whatever. I wrote an article that ran in Bicycling, "Inside the Coors Classic," which is also a chapter in my book.

One thing I didn't write about in the Coors Classic article was the drug use. Not by the riders, they get tested, but by everyone else, and the drug of choice was cocaine. I was a rock band roadie for 42 years. I don't use, never have, and I have seen plenty of drugs. I was used to seeing that in my other world, but it surprised me at a big bike race.

Later on I went with Mike and the 7/Eleven team to the Giro, but you wouldn't want to hear about that....

But you can if you want, it's a chapter in my book too, see tagline.

Well they had the USA Pro Challenge for three or four years. It was neat to see the race incorporate a stretch of my bike commute route through downtown Colorado Springs (where I am).

But the USA Pro Challenge is no more. However the inaugural "Tour of Colorado" pro cycling race is set for this august:

I would like to see it stay in Colo just pretty much around Boulder like the Red Zinger/Coors Classic started out with. I think it collapsed when it got too big and was in Calif and other locations.
