Great news

There is great news, and we can see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. The four most rotten months for cycling are over. Here in Nebr the sun is now up by 7 AM. I am more than half way thru my late winter overhaul of my bike and trike. I am so looking forward to my getting to ride my every other day sched.

This has been depressing me lately. March is the last month of groomer skiing.

indyfabz 03-01-17 11:54 AM

The bad news...You're still in Nebraska. :innocent:

Milton Keynes 03-01-17 12:23 PM

The only thing is that with March being here it's been windy as heck... and this weekend looks like good riding weather except for the forecast 20 MPH winds with 30 MPH gusts.

Moe Zhoost 03-01-17 07:16 PM

I understand bad weather, but here the hit is infrequent and riding may be iffy or rarely impossible for 3-4 days at most. I just don't know what I would do with myself if I had to wait more than that to get back on the road. I'd be in the market for studded tires - or even better an ICE Full Fat.

Only 11 days until we set the clocks 1 hour forward.

My kind of humor, thank-you.

At the beginning of November I was concerned about how I was going to maintain some kind of activity schedule through the winter.

All winter I've been participating in spinning classes 4 times per week. Now I'm wondering to myself how I'm going to keep up that program when the weather gets nicer.

I'm thinking these are pretty good problems to have.

It's been a really mild winter even by FL standards. It was 85 degrees yesterday. I think summer is going to be early and really hot this year. It's depressing.

Which of those states can you sit on your porch and watch your dog run away...for three days?

(heard that from a comedian and thought it was funny)

It's been really weird here as well. The weather is flip flopping so much that my joints don't know what to think. 80 here yesterday and it's 45 out there now. It really looks like spring is here, and given the flower buds on my fruit trees early again this year I hope it's the case. I mean, that is what the rodent said.

Very warm month of February in Philly. We had several days in the 60s and 70s. March started out that way, too, but today it's back down to the 40s. Supposed to be back into the 60s at the beginning of next week. I am so hoping that holds through next weekend. If it does, I am going to take next Friday off and do a three-day loaded tour to a state forest in New Jersey. I will be heading to Montana on June 17th for two weeks of touring so I need to start getting miles under my belt.

Florida is actually the flattest state in the USA....Kansas is 9th. Nebraska is 20th.

:roflmao2:

I drove thru Kansas once, thanks for those lane markers otherwise I felt I was not moving at all.

Wow I didn't know that. Cool. I think our highest elevation is somewhere in the 300' range. We do have trees though, so that may be hard to follow the pup which is running away (DAMHIK x multiple dogs).

bobwysiwyg 03-02-17 12:41 PM

If you go by mean elevation, I believe Florida is number two behind Delaware.

Milton Keynes 03-02-17 12:57 PM

Actually in my corner of the state, it's fairly hilly. Only out in the western half of the state is it table top flat.

Do you know why the prevailing winds in Kansas go from south to north? Because Nebraska sucks and Oklahoma blows.

I live in Syracuse. I will stay hunkered down until April Because I know better lol.

I was there first week of January. Out on the ice (Onieda Lake) and couldn't see any shoreline, but the one I was 50 feet away from. Brrr..

BlazingPedals 03-02-17 01:41 PM

My winter non-riding is December through March; pretty much the calendar winter plus the first part of December. November is usually rideable, but just on weekends due to lack of sun. March may have more sun but it's still cold; ice-out is usually around the end of March here in S. Michigan.

MikeinFL 03-02-17 03:27 PM

You could ride a stationary in front of a tv during winter but one day they might make a VR stationary bike that you ride inside but really feels and looks like you are out there riding the perfect trail. Keep 'biking' during winter.

I tell you what, if they made that, I'd want it. It could do things you couldn't do in real life like go faster than possible, change location, jump over things, etc. And bike any 'real' trails you'd never get to in real life.

GlennR 03-02-17 04:39 PM

This year i purchased a cycling jacket and gloves which allows me to ride in temps in the upper 20s.

Since December, i've put over 700 miles on my Cyclecross bike.

I've ridden more outside that going to spin class.
