Need Road Bike Recommendation
Hey there!
New to this forum so not sure this is the right place to post this...giving it a shot here. Back into cycling last year after a long layoff. Had knee replacement and cycling huge recovery help. Have a Trek FX 3 which has served me well, but now want to upgrade to a traditional road bike. Most miles spent on trails with gravel or choppy pavement, but want true road speed as possible. Want endurance geometry for long rides. Goal is first century this year. Budget is +/- $2,500 and looking at these three:
Trek Domane S5 Disc
Cannondale Synapse Carbon Disc 105
Merckx Strassbourg 71 Alloy (2016 model on sale for $1700)
Displaced loyalty to Trek, the Cannondale looks cool as hell, and the Merckx dealer is a great guy I'd love to buy from. Like to pick one of these three. Please limit other options to prevent my head from exploding.
Thanks!

Hello, kinda new in this forum too but I'do my best to help you.
If I were to pick one of the three I'd normally go for the cannondale is one of my favorite brands and deliver excelent performance. The Merckx however has my attention, it has a Shimano 105 groupset and I love the fact it doesn't has a carbon frame, call me conservative but I prefer it that way if you're riding over unstable surfaces. I've seen/heard of many broken carbon frame accidents for my taste and if you're not racing you don't need it. Also the price is awesome.
