what's your pre-ride supplement/snack?
Interested to see what people use for their pre-workout.
I'm sure I will hear a lot of carby things, but I have been on the keto diet for some time now and eat less than 10-15 carbs per day.
I put 7g of coconut oil, green coffee bean cap, green tea cap, and a yohimbe cap in my 5 cup mug of coffee and drink that before I ride.

Even low carb (keto as well) I add a bit more good carbs. Avocado, or sweet potato with bacon. I make my own "gels" in a ziplock bag and just squeeze it in my mouth.
For centuries, metric or imperial or more, then I add a bit of honey or eat a banana with some protein and fat.

Half a ham and cheese or peanutbutter sandwich for rides up to 30 miles. Over that a whole sandwich.

Yogurt with cereal and a banana, and a cup of coffee. Before pretty much every ride, day or night. Quick energy, lasts enough for longer rides until it's time for a beer stop, or noon, whichever comes first. Maybe 10 a.m. for a breakfast stout. Because breakfast. And 10 a.m. is second breakfast time.

I don't eat anything special for rides but in the last year I've been eating more during the ride itself in accordance with info from this book. https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&ke...sl_bhu9vb1ip_b

FAT. Avocado. Almond Butter. Sugar (GU) carried for backup. If needed on ride hard to beat Bonk Breakers. Yes they were a former kid sponsor, but we but them when we can find them.

I usually ride in the morning so have breakfast before I go. I can't see the point of eating Fat before a ride. I suppose it can't hurt but I doubt it would finish digesting before the ride was over and your body has plenty of excess fat already.

It's not so much the pre-ride meal that counts; it's the regular balanced diet all day, every day that counts more. I came of age in the 1970's and 1980's with endurance events (cross country ski marathons). I used to "carbo load" the night before with a big bowl of pasta. All of us did it. I never thought that it did me any good and a matter of fact I thought it was the wrong thing but I did it anyway.
I felt better during those long races when I ate a high protein, low fat meal the night before and a peanut butter sandwich and banana the morning of the race. I felt lighter, faster, more focused, more jazzed up, etc. My times were also some of my best.
Eat a good balanced diet and don't do anything special for any ride or race under 100 miles other than a small protein-rich breakfast...in my opinion. As far as liquids during the ride or race? Straight water. Your body will absorb it much faster and it will hit your bio-chemistry faster to.
Goo? Meh. Take a banana and half a peanut butter sandwich instead...if you get hungry it will hit you nearly as fast as the goo and it will taste better too.

I don't quite understand the "caps"... do you mean capsules? Do you have a problem digesting real food when riding?
Finally, why are you on a keto diet?

I go out an ride up to 2 hard hours on nothing but 2 cups of coffee (the pot says 6). More than that, I stop for something light and easy to digest, since I have a nervous stomach.

A home made oatmeal cookie or two- oatmeal with just enough dough to hold the oatmeal, raisins and nuts together. Plus a glass of milk. Then, depending upon temp and terrain, about 500 ml of water every 20-30 km.

Nothing. No matter when I ride, morning or afternoon, I have my usual breakfast or lunch. My usual ride is 30 to 35 miles every other day. All I take with me is water, and I dont eat anything after the ride till the usual lunch or dinner.
To me a bike ride is not a special event I have to prepare for in the way of eating. The only time I eat anything on a bike ride is if I am riding a club event where there are sag stops for the longer rides, such at a metric cent.

Jeeves usually makes me chateaubriand before topping off my tires. Why do you ask?

Why are you asking your question? Do you think a change in your intake will improve your performance? What is your intensity when you do ride?
I don't quite understand the "caps"... do you mean capsules? Do you have a problem digesting real food when riding?

I'm on keto for weight loss. Down 40 pounds and going
And yes caps meaning capsules. I open them up and just pour in the powder. Those powders with the coffee is pretty much a natural form of hydroxycut
It's extremely hard for someone who is overweight to lose weight if they eat carby things much less one of those energy gels.
Those are for skinny people.

I usually go out on an empty stomach. If I am trying to go long I may eat a granola bar. If I didn't eat dinner I'll take some Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy
