whoa! that's cold! better off not taking the reduced fee & fighting it in court & charging them for lost time at work. screw them, lawyer up! btw I have the name of an awesome NY traffic attorney if you ever need one!

Wifey recently got pulled over. cop says it was because she didn't have a current registration sticker on her plate. she tells me she gave him the registration from her glove compartment. I check both. the plate sticker is expired. registration in her glove box is expired. I'm like "so he just let you go?" she says "yup". turns out she had renewed online but didn't have the paperwork on her. (he obviously must have discovered that when he went back to the cruiser) I'm out of mind & insist she resolves this before another cop tows her car & leaves her on a street corner for me to pick up (which has happened before). turns out a few weeks later she finds the paperwork in her lunch box! I put the sticker on last night & replaced the old registration with the new in her glove box. yeesh. don't know what the specific rules are but I'm sure the cop could have hassled her a lot more than that. I think the cops in our area are pretty cool

"Charging them for lost time at work" by what legal procedure?
"Charging" who in court for lost time at work?

BTW does that awesome NY Traffic Attorney work for free?

Note many states charge "court fees" even if you mail it in. I know VA does.

True, my local county gets $50 for a red light camera ticket. Additional fees and surcharges bring the total to $150.. even if mailed in.

I wouldn't mind if it actually reduced my property taxes which are astronomical.

How do you and your NY Traffic Attorney stand up like he-men patriots and charge "them" to pay you and him for your lost work time fighting traffic minor tickets?

I was aggrandizing. BTW, not only is he a NY traffic attorney, he's a New Your CITY traffic attorney, cuz those NYC political b*stards have their own special tricks to get our money, such as before installing red light cameras, shortening the yellow light durations!

you make those suckers regret the day they gave you a ticket. then if the next cop looks up your record, hopefully they see what happened last time (or more) & should be prepared to get run thru the ringer & should think twice before running you up for an obscure rule that's likely to be contested

one cop up here stopped me for going 50 in a 35. he was hiding in a spot where everyone was doing the same. easy targets. comes over to my car, asked for my docs & while I'm getting them out, I make a little conversation presenting my side of the story, like "oh sorry, i didn't mean to, etc" then he says: "I'll bet you have a long record" I told him "I'm 50 years old & been driving a long time" he chuckles and says "we'll, I guess you're no terrorist" (why cuz I'm white? & a little salty?) anyway, doesn't even check my records at his car & just tells me to slow down. I was totally courteous, yes sir, no sir, like that. didn't give him a hard time. I learned a long time ago not to argue with cops. my girlfriends & wives on the other hand ... have gotten me out of tickets by highlighting flaws in the cops assertions. glad to provide specifics (& maybe I will even if you don't ask)

adding court fees regardless of outcome, give them license to do what they want with no consequences to them. & we should stand up against that. win or lose. it's wrong. this is our country, not just theirs. they are here to serve & protect us. they work for us, not the other way around

here's a great example of where a girlfriend stood up to a cop's assertion that I ran a stop sign. he was hiding behind a bldg where the stop sign was not visible to him. I stopped but he didn't see that. cop gave me my docs back & we went on our way. I didn't even realize it. I was flabbergasted that I was stopped for anything, but old eagle eye was sharp as a tack. miss her

Doesn't sound as if you put anyone through the ringer but yourself, i.e. willingly and happily getting your wallet wrung out by your clever NYC lawyer for fighting in court your own minor traffic infractions.

cop had to appear in court for a year & a half over & over & over again. I did not. it was dismissed. the fee for the layer was the same as the ticket. but I don't have it on my record & I don't have any insurance premium increases

What was the traffic infraction, DWI, Reckless Driving or what??
Doesn't sound like it was a minor violation at all like everyone else has been discussing.

That was nice of the cop...I think he still could've ticketed her since she didn't have the paperwork on her, even though it was updated in the system. I think that's how it is where I am anyway. I got pulled over 2x in the same mile by 2 different state troopers in 2010 because my registration was expired...I'm not sure how the second one didn't see me leaving the scene of the first stop lol Both let me go with a warning if I promised to stop up the street and get it taken care of.

Of course that place failed it so I had to drive 30 miles to my regular station...they passed it.

For the topic...I don't use a hitch rack but a spare tire rack. I leave it on year round and we keep it greased up (or whatever) so it still moves freely if it needs to be taken off. It took me over 45 minutes to set up so I'm not doing the on/off thing constantly...

how many bolts hold your spare on? what's the condition of those? does the rack use the same bolts? was always curious

Right right, the plates and the windshield sticker. I haven't done them myself in a few years.

People pried two roof racks off the top of my car during the same year. Seemed to be the thing to do in Philly for a while as there we reports of other such thefts on Craig's list.

I don't know, 4 or 5? They are in great condition. The rack is on the tire itself. This one - https://www.etrailer.com/Spare-Tire-...FZCIswodUCYJqA

It uses two giant screws to be put on, taken off, and 3 straps. Two spring loaded screws that turn the holders in and out...those like to stick, but they have since it was brand new.

I was originally looking at one like this - https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-21...FclDNwodD08M1A
but its my fathers SUV I use these days so he picked out the type of rack. My Camaro isn't great for racks or kids lol

One thing, the rack blocks the bumper, so a minor collision could be more damaging to the car hitting you, and perhaps also to your own vehicle.

Just something to keep in mind. Hard to bump bumpers with a pole in between.

I had a pickup truck for seven years. I just put my bike (and sometimes one or two more for friends) in the back of the truck - the cargo area, or "load bed" as author Lee Child likes to call it.

No trailer hitches involved.

Not so dizzy as to conflate a conversation about court costs and fines for minor traffic citations as inquired in the OP, with fighting criminal charges like DWI or reckless driving that almost always call for legal representation to hopefully avoid serious fines, jail and/or judicial and public reprimands that can have social and career altering effect.
