Bicycle value question

We have a women's Sanwa Champion 400 road bicycle, approximately a 1984 model. The bike is in very good condition, gears, brakes etc work. Tires are 27" x 1-1/4". Believe the frame would be a medium size. Any idea what the value of this bike would be thinking about selling it? Thanks.

A bicycle is worth whatever a willing seller and a willing buyer can agree on.

I'm thinking the base value for any bike with 27 x 1 1/4 tires is around $50.00. That's an easy local sale - no packing or shipping cost, clear out the garage, go out for dinner - done.

I'm not familiar with a Sanwa Champion 400, it might have some kind of nostalgic or collector value, (I doubt it). But even if it does, however, here's the thing. You have to find somebody who wants specifically a Sanwa Champion 400 bicycle to realize the nostalgic or collector value. Then you'll probably have to add a significant packing and shipping cost.

I see a lot of these 1980's 10 speeds on the local classifieds. The majority of them are overpriced, IMO. The sellers keep refreshing the same ads over and over again. Some of these ads have been here for months. I guess they are hoping that someone somewhere is looking for just that bike and willing to pay for it. There really isn't much of a market for such old bikes. My own restored 1980's 12 speed isn't worth the parts I put on it, but for me it's got sentimental value.

Anyway, to answer your question, it's not worth much. $50-100, perhaps.
