Bicycle thread.

What bicycles does everyone have? Any vintage ones?

Dirt Farmer 05-17-17 06:31 PM

Yes, vintage ones.

What saddle bag is that?

jefnvk 05-18-17 07:41 AM

Depending on your definition of "vintage", somewhere between "all but one" of my bikes to "all my bikes" are vintage.

Bontrager Pro Seat Pack 2012 - landiscyclery.com

It has 3 inner pockets (2 side, main compartment, 1 on mouth), light tab, and pump strap underneath. 7" long. Has inserts on the top & bottom to keep its shape (I bent the top one when over tightening it but it straightens back out when full lol). Its a pretty good bag though.

this is the new version - Not sure if its the same size though. http://www.trekbicyclesuperstore.com...k-179355-1.htm

I had one I liked but went to a saddle with CF rails and it no longer works so I'm back shopping. Everything I'm finding is too short or way longer than I want, I like to keep my pump in my bag because I switch it from bike to bike. Yours looks like it would be the ideal size.

Another question. What mirror is that?

The mirror is - https://www.amazon.com/CatEye-Road-B...cat+eye+mirror
It works on drop bars and flat bars, and at any angle you need.

I just got the Topeak Mini Morph (10" one) and it fits great/securely through the pump band underneath...if you don't find a properly sized bag for your pump. I would check the measurements on the new version though as it seems some places only sell the medium, or large, etc (but don't all mention which exactly). Mine is much older, so slightly different in looks, but with the same features.

What length bag are you looking for - 7-8"?

My pump is just under 7" so I need a bag 18CM long. Are you saying that your pump attaches to the bag's outside bottom, just not in place in the picture?

corrado33 05-18-17 10:09 AM

I have bikes. A few are red, some are orange, I have a yellow one, a blue one, and a black one. I have a chrome one... and another black one.

Most are about as old as I am. Actually, I lied, most are older than me.

Yeah, it attaches underneath. There are others like this too. The Castelli Undersaddle XL is another I have been looking at - while its only 16cm x 6cm x 6cm, it also has a pump band on the bottom (i've been looking for a more squared bag, preferably as long as my current one, but I might just get the Castelli and a Detour Day Pass handlebar bag for extra stuff...haven't decided).

This is the pump band and a pic showing the inside pockets.

Not sure when something becomes vintage. Me, I kinda like integrated shifters, and my 9spd cassettes. My main two road bikes are pretty new, 2007-ish 3x9 setups. I don't feel obligated to buy the latest and greatest, but the "modern" stuff seems to get me by.

I do like riding my 3 speed though, spring/fall and occasionally on hot summer days.

I was not aware of saddle bags that had this option, TYVM for sharing. Being able to attach it underneath would allow the use of smaller bags. I Castelli stuff (when on sale) I will look that one up too. Thanks again.

I guess I should at least post something pertaining to the thread's topic since I got off on a tangent.

This is mine while waiting on a rescue pickup after a seat post clamp failure Tuesday.

RockHard23 this is the saddle bag I was using. The upper mount attaches to the seat rails and has buckles to lock it into position. The larger diameter CF rails prevents the buckles from buckling and it moves around. Otherwise it was the ideal size, having to pack everything in tight to get it all to fit.

If you can't buy it new... it is vintage.

Very nice Basso, btw. I like all the perfectly matching bits.

Yeah, the Castelli is around $33, give or take a couple dollars depending on store (bit expensive for a bag to me, but it seems nice enough lol). Hope you find one that works out!

I've actually never seen your bike before. Nice! :)

I've pieced it together over the last year and a half. I got a deal on the frame but didn't like the color, stripped and painted it before ever installing the first part. I wanted the anodized red as my second color so I bought the vinyl and made frame stickers, it was the font I liked. I just did the wheel stickers a week or so ago. My stem, rims and seat post are all 3K matte. The stem and rims have some gray in them so I thought that the gray would look good on the rims. I'm not happy with either the font I chose nor the mismatched colors of vinyl. Problem is I'm not sure if I'd like all the decal in gray or all in red. I fear doing the rims in red will be too much, I've got some solid designs as well as outline font. I messed around a little with a shadow/phantom design today. I do the designs in AutoCAD, save them out as DXF files that I have a buddy cut with his plotter.

Thanks, I had just gotten that CF seat post clamp that failed during the first ride. I realize now it was due to something I missed when picking out the part but had already decided to order an anodized red. I also have anodized brake block holders but they don't allow the pads to be toed in so I didn't use them.

I agree about some of this stuff seeming expensive but some times it's the price of quality. I've been through 3 or 4 saddle bags because the straps tear loose, might not have happened with higher priced name brands. I need to take them and have the strap sewed back on.

Is the pink the OEM color for your bike?

You did a great job on the decals! I thought the bike came like that. The decal color seems to match the anodized bits perfectly.

Yeah its the original color- "Ice Pink", they called it. Came in pink and blue that year...Midnight Mauve for the blue, IIRC. I'm having a surprisingly hard time finding a perfect match to do touch ups with :( Mixing my own isn't working either, of course!

Yeah, exactly. I was going to go cheap with Amazon on my next bags but I get so caught up in the reviews and just can't take the chance lol...I'm actually a bit surprised Castelli isn't putting a slightly higher price on their new line of bags, but I hear the brand is good, so I figure I might just go ahead with it. Decided the same for my handlebar bag from Detour...though today I found it on Amazon listed at $18 instead of the $30+ I was planning to pay:D

My bikes will be vintage in about 20 years. Oldest bike I have is an '07 Trek hardtail 26er.
