Felt VR Series
Does anyone own one of the Felt VR series bikes and if so how do you like it?

I rode for a while with a guy who owned one and loved it ... he was an experienced rider and smart shopper, and he was pleased with his ride.
Can't say if the Felt is better or worse than any other similarly equipped endurance geometry frame .... people in that club rode a variety of bikes ad all liked them ... but as far as felt VR, only one guy owned on and he did like it. |

I have a Felt VR40 I got off CL and use it for foul weather riding. The only knock I can put on it is the cable operated disc brakes aren't as good as a set of rim brakes.

Very nice mate...I like it! Surprised that the mechanical discs are no better than rim breaks...although I have heard they can be spongy. What height are you and what frame size did you go for?

I have supposedly quite good mech discs (Tektro Spyres) on my Fuji and I'd say they are on par with good rim brakes .... but they are immediate in the wet. Hydro discs vastly increase your braking force by using hydraulic pressure to augment your hand strength---mech discs, it is just you, same as rim brakes. However, If I try hard I can lock a back wheel with rim brakes .... and particularly in the wet, tire contact patch and rolling friction, not hand strength is the determinant. Adjust them properly, bed them in for some hu8ndred or so miles, and they should be adequate brakes. Plus, the hardware is there (mounting points and enough meat to take the stress) that you could add hydros later if it was important to you. I have a set of 105 hydros sitting on the shelf---I never bothered to do the conversion because the mech discs have always been sufficient.

Why is it so difficult to purchase a new Felt bike?
I have done quite a bit of research and am sold on the VR, but honestly it seems ridiculous that it should be so difficult for me to buy the product. I would be happy to pre-order or join a waitlist but that does not seem to be an option. I contacted two local dealers - they do not have "waiting lists" but suggested I check back periodically. WTF??!! Like I have time for that? Get out of the stone age. I found a dealer 900 miles away that has my size but they are not allowed to ship and not sure I want to spend the money to fly out there (or have a local friend ship it). Sorry for ranting but honestly if most businesses operated this way they would go out of business. Even Tesla takes pre-orders and deposits. |
