It takes all of 2 seconds to check it, if I ever see a blinking light I'll just charge it. Simple.

I had the Ultegra DI2 (10 speed) and it was a great group. I now have the Dura Ace 9000 and it is also great. The best difference with the DI2 is the automatic trim on the front derailure.

Dura Ace is nicer than Ultegra. On the other hand, if you are someone plagued with dropped chains and missed shifts, the down grade to Ultegra Di2 may be advisable.

You said that you didn't think it will ever run down. I said that it will. If you forget to check it could during a ride. You are right that it is simple to check and recharge. It is easy to take things for granted and forget to check

Re: battery life .... I did some work as a photographer and such. Batteries were everywhere ... in my laptop, in my cameras, in my speedlight, in my light pack, in my voice reorders.

Somehow I managed. No, no, don't worship me ... I am not a battery-management deity, I am merely a person who can think a tiny amount .... because that is all it takes.

There may be a lot of reasons for using or not using DI2 .... user error is not one of them.

I have used a lot of different Shimano and SRAM I like my Di2. If I buy a new bike it will be either Shimano or SRAM e shift. Can things break or die with Di2 sure but a broken cable leaves you stuck in one gear also.

I've read a lot of posts here on Di2, and I have yet to see a single soul who has it that doesn't rave about it. That should tell you something. The weight penalty for Ultegra is less than 1/2 lb over mech, and Dura Ace Di2 is actually lighter than mech.

Snarky? Aren't you a little sensitive? And are you one of those types that love jumping to conclusions based on zero evidence. Anecdotes are hardly a compelling argument when one is trying to decide between different things. There are equipment failures in the Tour de France, electronic and mechanical. If everyone abandoned those equipment brands that fail where would cycling be? One person's experience, even this entire forum, is hardly a sizeable sampling of the whole, non?

I faced the same decision and opted for DA9100. Lighter weight, concerns about electronic obsolescence, and preference for the "best" version of mechanical v. "worst" version of electronic. YMMV.

I don't think you'd be disappointed with either, depending on if the frame is Di2 ready or not.

absolutely. I am running dura ace mech from 2011 now. I have no issues with it. But I am getting a new frame from warranty and I thought now might be the time to add a new group to the new frame. I can put my current dura ace on my wifes S1

Every Dura Ace component is nicer than the Ultegra version. Finish, weight, materials, etc. The electric function is a different issue and does not elevate an Ultegra group to the level of a Dura Ace group. Even though Ultegra is a downgrade from Dura Ace, there may be good reasons for someone to choose it. Maybe you need easier gearing or have some other issue. As mentioned above, the frame may influence your choice. If not designed for Di2, you may not want the kludge of external wiring, etc.
