Just had knee surgery
Hello all,
Just had my knee scoped and they didnt do anything major. I want to make sure I do the proper PT. I had the same procedure a couple years ago and my knee got worse, partially my fault. But do you think riding on a trainer for a while is good for rehab? I will be going to the gym for other things but riding on the trainer is convenient. Thanks!

I really think that's something you should be asking your therapist about. Actually, there are some very well qualified people here, but it's sometimes hard to know who they are.

Getting post-op medical advice from an online bicycle forum is dangerous at best and foolish at worst.
Your Physical Therapist (PT) knows what the surgeon did to your knee, and more importantly WHY it was done. He also knows the precautions that need to be taken to not worsen your condition, while improving your function at the appropriate pace. If you don't have a PT then by all means, ask your surgeon.

Yep I'll agree with the others. Talk to your PT.
I will say I've had mine knees done 4 times for meniscus tears. Both my doctor and the surgeon are cyclist and had me back on the bike riding easy very soon after the operations as part of my PT. But please talk to the experts.
I'll also share that regular riding keeps the aches and pains away. If I miss several days in a row my knees start hurting just walking around. So, if you continue having knee issues you may find that regular riding helps. "Motion is lotion"!

I have to agree with the previous replies. See what your PT or doctor says and go from there. I don't think anyone here is qualified to give that kind of advice and even those that are don't know why or what procedure you had done.

Thanks all. My PT isn't scheduled for another week and I haven't spoke to my surgeon because she went on maternity leave. I will speak to the surgeon in a couple months. Until then its rehab time. It has been 8 days and I am basically walking on it with my weight. I still have the stitches so trying to not overdo it. I had a meniscus tear procedure but they couldnt find the tear so they did a procedure that would increase blood flow to the affected area identified in the MRI.
I realize this isn't a medical forum. I am not asking for medical advice lol. Just wondering if continued use of the bicycle trainer would help at low impact. My last surgery two years ago they only had me ride the bike for about 15 min a day and then moved on to other exercises. Once I complete my scheduled PT I will be on my own and I want to make sure I can ride again!
