Here's something you don't see everyday:

I'll be the first to admit that I've purchased and carried lots of bike parts while on my own bike--handlebars, full groupsets, bike racks, pannier bags, etc., but never an entire bike...at least I hope he bought it or was given it.

I see it all the time. In fact I saw it today on the way home from work. I always wonder where they ripped it off from.

Some carry patch kits or spare tubes in case of a flat, but this fella is really well prepared!

Lots of photos of people doing similar on the internet - I googled 'bike carrying bike' and selected 'images'.

Note that he's pulling a mono in pouring rain while carrying the bike.
The bloke behind him's carrying an umbrella.
Looks like a police car in the back ground so it'd be nice to know what the circumstances were.

Interesting that someone thought it was necessary to Greek the street signs.

Is that common terminology for what we call a wheelie?

It's called both here. For some reason, I thought mono was the term you used

I was using Photoshop to crop the screen capture anyway. What can I say. I'm paranoid.

First time I've heard the term. I've had an intern from the Netherlands working with me for the last couple of weeks, it's been fun sharing terminology. Though a second language his English is perfect, but we're working on his American.

Critical failure on his primary bike, plus a flat front tire on the backup bike?

CliffordK 10-06-17 07:22 PM

I've never tried carrying a bike crosswise on my bike rack, but I've carried several in my bike trailer, as well as towing with the forks attached to the bike rack.

+1 it's a good instance of where a photo is clearly not worth a thousand words. We can gather that it had to be some kind of organized event, but where's the rider, why isn't the bike simply transported in the following police car, etc.

Years ago, I was leading a group ride of 10 riders when one crashed. We ended up having to transport 10 people, their stuff and bikes over 50 miles on the remaining 9 bikes. Fortunately the crashee was a woman, and relatively light, and not severely injured, but the bike was toast. We removed all the luggage from one bike which was used to transport her as a passenger, and spread that and her bike among the group and took off, with the 3-4 stronger riders taking shifts on taking the heaviest bike (her), and did have to walk some hills, but succeeded in getting to the day's destination pretty much on schedule, and spent the evening and next morning doing field repairs and getting the damaged bike to where it would roll.

I've done it- tied bike to a small backpack.

Not great but OK for a few miles.

That's one way to help enforce the 3-foot rule.

Imagine what he'd do if the MC flatted.

Now THAT would be something to see.

You wouldn't even notice it.

Combined rider+bike is probably 600+ lbs, so adding 25lb even on a lever like that would be no worse than full cases.
