Given how natural resources are limited, how about public transportation for normal use? Just don't go where public transportation won't take you. You can rent a truck when you need to move your bike in a vehicle. In case of a flat while cycling, you can feign a crash, and a motorist is bound stop and take you and your bike home or to a shop.

You're gonna' like it even less when the battery pak tanks and you have a $6K repair bill staring back at you.

Subaru Legacy estate car does it for me, can fit lots of parts inside as needed but when the seats need to be used there's plenty of room for a clip on rear carrier too!

odyssey van. Nice for trips too. A bike on a carrier or in a pickup truck screams "steal me"

Apparently this is a non- issue. Warranty is 10 years, 150,000 miles. Beyond that, $3000 for the battery pack, maybe a few hundred to replace. I know probably a dozen folks who own them, never heard of anyone having this problem. The Ultimate Guide: Toyota Prius Battery Life, Cost, and Warranty

I have nothing against owning a prius but considereing the battery replacement etc why don't people just get cars with good mileage. I get almost 41 on my corrolla and it only has one battery I will have to replace.

You either read the same 10 plus year old article that I read eight years ago or maybe you have some actual experience.

I don't think the doom and gloom predicted is coming true in any major way. The costs are also much lower than way back then. I think of it as no more risk than having to replace engine and/or transmission.

My sister has one that is pushing eight to ten years old and it still drives great. No battery issues. I've driven it myself on a 700 mile trip. I had no trouble with accelerating rapidly to well over the posted speeds for the interstates I traveled.

For myself though, I like fast luxury cars and trucks.

I drove my mother in law's Corolla a few weeks ago and it was fine. I think that was my second choice when I got the Prius,

Clearly the best vehicle is a Ford Ranger, given that it's what I drive.

Eh, I like the SUV a bit more than the truck. Only use the truck if we need to move the ladders, wood, playhouse, etc...things that won't fit in the SUV. My kids car seat doesn't work well in the truck either.

I think a bicycle is the best vehicle for a bicyclist. Anything else is just a compromise

I've driven a few Skodas in Europe. Nice practical car at a good price point, kinda sad they dont sell them here. I could deal with a stick shift wagon.

Apologies if 39 others said it first, but how about a bike?

Any Forumla or Indy series car, they are recumbent so they have to be the best, of course. Bike carriers might be problematic but surely anyone with the physical gifts must have the mental prowess that can solve that problem.....

My favorite vehicle for bikes was my 2003 CRV. Why? Becuase I find a rack mounted on a side-swing gate is the best bike hauling configuration I have ever used.

I’ve owned a pickup, a van, and several other cars with many kinds of racks (1UP trays and roof carriers). Even with the simple hang-rack, I still found the swinging rear gate of the CRV by far the most convenient.

This.

I travel back and forth between the U.S. and EU several times per year. Something very interesting is that there are massively more bikes on cars in the U.S. But massively more people riding bikes in EU.

In Toronto, the buses have bicycle racks on the front.

In Portland, the Trimet light rail trains have hooks to hang your bicycles.

So the best vehicles for transporting a bicycle are public transit.
