Chain Reaction Cycles WTF?

Being in California, I was reluctant to order a frame from the UK. After reading reviews that said people in the US were getting their parts within a week or 2, I thought I would give Chain Reaction Cycles a shot. Delivery times to US stated 4-7 days. I placed order on Oct. 6 and my order is still processing, not yet shipped. I realize Hurricane Ophelia just struck in UK but that was 10 days after I ordered. They responded to my first email on Oct. 9 saying their may be a "system error" that is preventing my order from progressing. I have sent 2 emails since then and they have not responded to them. I told them I am considering buying a frame in US and refusing package from them if it does arrive as I feel at this point my order may never be shipped. Very disappointed at the lack of customer service and slow processing time. I tried to call them, but my service won't let me make international calls, so I cannot even request a refund as they refuse to answer my emails. Has anyone else here had this problem with CRC? Thanks for letting me vent!

How much money were you planning to save in return for all this aggravation?

Exactly Indy! Probably at least $400. I have been riding fs bikes since 1996,and I just wanted to try a long travel hardtail but not end up losing too much cash if I decided I didn't like it. The Brand X ht01 seemed like a good way to try it, since long travel ht frames are not cheap in the US!

My experience with CRC in the past has been quite good. Your experience certainly seems unusual to me.

I had great experience with them, got stuff faster and cheaper than Niagara.

That said, try Skype if you actually want to call them.

You ordered a frame only 10 days ago and you want a refund?

Do you realize that almost all online stores don't stock expensive items like frames and order them first from manufacturers or big warehouses?
Also, they should have the fine print somewhere indicating that frames aren't shipped quickly using airplanes like tiny items.

I've always had good experiences with CRC. Their products were often delivered quicker than those from domestic dealers.

Same name, different business, there has been a Chain Reaction Bike shop in California, for decades. https://www.chainreaction.com/

Stuff happens. They may be having a server issue, or simply forgot to pay the electric bill.

They seem to have a good reputation. So even though you're frustrated hold off on shopping until you confirm that the bike isn't shipped.

Let it arrive and refusing it is the worst outcome, and will only make things worse.

Been buying parts online since 1998, never had this problem, so I can only compare to the hundreds of times i have ordered in almost 20 years. When it says "in stock" and US delivery wothin 4 to 7 days and the order is not moving that is a concern to me. Also, others got the same frame in the US within 1 week. Did not say I wanted a refund. I said I could not contact them IF I wanted a refund.

Yes, but the reviews that I read were from the actual Chain Reaction Cycles website in UK from people in US getting shipment from UK. Exact same frame. Chain Reaction in Cali does not even carry,Brand X frames, lol!

Thanks. I do not plan to refuse it, I was simply considering it. I just get frustrated when they cannot just return an email saying "sorry we are experiencing a large volume of orders and we will get it out as soon as we can", etc...

I believe Wiggle owns CRC, or at least there was a merger. A recent Wiggle order of mine was cancelled due to system issues. I’m wondering whether they are merging their systems and there are some teething issues?

This may explain it. Thanks

You may want to try a different calculator Sparky. Perhaps reading the post a few more times too.

I checked the website and it only has a vague note about the dispatch time:
My order has not dispatched yet what should I do?
Sorry that there has been a delay in getting your order out the door. Sometimes we get really busy and things can get a little delayed.
It also has a vague note about bigger items.
Some deliveries may take slightly longer:
  • Bikes take a little bit longer as we want to ensure they arrive with you in perfect condition, and so will take the time to inspect them before delivery
Also, the website says that cheap items are picked and shipped the first.
It means that they actually stock cheaper items in the store.

Ummm.. is a $140 frame considered an "expensive" item or a "bike or similar sized item"? If you read the 42 reviews of the Brand X HT01 frame, a guy in Utah got his in 3 days. I just checked the delivery page at CRC. It states Standard tracked delivery, 4-7 days. Bikes and similar sized items may take longer. Google searches show many US customers that got their parts within 10 days. Mine has yet to even be shipped. I am sure I will dig the frame when I eventually get it and build it up. It is mainly the lack of communication that disappoints me. It's like they just don't care to email me back and address my problem.

What does their website say about their unwillingness to respond to emails?

He's got a vague email about a system error.

Others may receive items that are actually in stock.

I've bought from CRC several times, never any issues! Good prices and fast shipping. Attempting to buy a trainer locally...still waiting 2 weeks...ridiculous. I wish CRC carried it I would have bought from them instead.

Yes, and my following 3 emails have been unanswered. Still processing, 13 days and counting...

Also, if you look at the Brand X mtb frame at CRC, it says "all sizes in stock".
