In Effective Cycling, Forester posts your odds of being hit by a car, or by another cyclist.

Fear your fellow cyclists, not the cars.

I think we have all “ almost hit by a distracted driver” and some don’t even know it. Keep your head on a swivel and be aware of your surroundings. Listen for rolling wheels, bells, shouting, coming up from behind. Be bright/visible but don’t feel entitled, you will be ran down by that distracted driver, they never even saw you. Car avoidance is the best medicine. That leaves dog walkers, kids, squirrels, asst scat. It’s all bad. I’m never riding again until tomorrow!

Heck I've 2 had cars hit me at work and drivers said they never saw me.

I drive a FedEx truck with 2 trailers, it's 85 feet long, 13.6 feet tall and nearly 10 feet wide with giant 9 foot high red and blue stickers. Broad daylight, clear skies.

Didn't work out well for their vehicles.

This is why I chuckle at the "wear bright clothes" posts.
