So I almost got hit by a phone user the other day. Here is the suprising part. It was a male around age of mid-50s on a bicycle. The stupid jerk was looking at his phone while trying to ride a bicycle. Leave your phones at home dumb jerks.

I was prepared to ram him while going 18mph. He was only doing about 5mph.

My strong suspicion is that such clueless cyclist will meet a just end in time.

I ride with a Bose bluetooth speaker playing my music. This sort of thing is one of the reasons. It usually is more applicable to people walking or roller blading, though.

I'm trying to envision a scenario where the 5 mph cyclist was the menace here & who's being the jerk but I'm coming up with nothing. We need photos, videos, and some diagrams, perhaps some witness testimony.

My rides always include my phone. I use it to track my stats (strava) and take pictures along the way. Put me in the "dumb jerks" category.

Why didn't you send him a text message to get out of your way?

Met a city cyclist standing still, apparently sight-seeing in the middle of the road on a bridge. Nuts. Of course, he had to start moving (somewhat erratic) just at the very moment I was passing him by.

Lucky for him he did say he was sorry...

I see some people texting with one hand while driving. Always females. No idea how they do it. I can hardly hit the right keys sitting on my couch with both hands.

Maybe I could do better if my flip phone had a colour screen. I tell my friends that I charge it by winding it up with a key

An acquaintance did something like that once and he still hasn't regained the use of one hand after several years.

sympathize w your frustration. passing a slow rider the other night I realized he was texting while wearing two earplugs. saying "on your left" was pointless. but I didn't almost ram him. we gotta expect the unexpected w catlike reflexes

Just curious: was it a city street or a MUP, who had the right of way, what was the sight distance at the intersection, how close is "amost", and did you have to stop?

Choctaw,

That's nothin'!! A few years ago when I lived in Arizona I used to see this young girl (16-18 maybe) now and then riding her bike on the sidewalk and navigating serpentine turns while riding with no hands. I was impressed. She made it look effortless. Then one day I saw the girl riding no hands on that curvy stretch of sidewalk while typing a text message on her phone! This is no joke. I shook my head in amazement. I hope she lives to a ripe old age but the laws of the road are working against her.

A few months ago I saw a young guy riding no hands, zig-zag-ing, northbound in the southbound lanes of rt-1, on his phone, down a huge hill...Couldn't believe it.

Did he have a forty of Mickey's in the other hand? And vaping between texting? If so, I know that guy. He lives... well, everywhere.
