Cleats and pedals
 

Has there been a study on which cleat and pedal systems deliver more power? Speedplay? SPD,Look? are they all about the same? Thanks Yall!

Pedals don't deliver power.

They're all about the same, even slotted cleats and toeclips. The differences are the engagement/release mechanism, "float," and walkability of the cleats. Find one whose features meet your requirements and keep riding! :thumb:

Clipless pedals have but one function - foot retention. They all do that and do it well. If you don't need the lightest pedals on the market, any of them will do. It's just a matter of what type of riding you are doing and how much you want to spend on pedals and shoes.

Some offer more “float”then others. Speedplays are well known for a lot of lateral float and some find that easier on the knees.

Others find that cleats like the Look and Shimano SPD-L offer better support for the foot, though using stiff shoes can neutralize that if using an SPD style pedal and cleat/shoes.

So not just a lazy ass.....

A wider platform works best for me = Look.
With float.

Pick up the old style, used on CL or at co-op for $5 - $10. Practical when you own a bunch of roadies.

I need to have my feet forced to more toe-in than they take naturally to keep my knees happy. Any no-float pedal system works well for me; I use toeclips with traditional slotted cleats and LOOK copy pedals with the black DELTA cleats. Efficiency-wise there is no difference.
