Velcro on jersey pockets
1 Attachment(s)
Last Summer I lost my phone out of my back middle jersey pocket.
Hit a side walk bump, didn't notice. Hour later at home I noticed it gone Wife did "find my iPhone" , happy ending, found phone. Been riding here in the desert, always checking ...... Blah blah blah Found some stick on Velcro to try out to hold the ph more secure in the jersey. For fabric, seem to attach pretty strong Loops to inside of pocket, fussy side to jersey back |
its a good idea. I have never had anything fall out, but have had stuff come out when reaching for other stuff so it was my fault.
But jeeesh that must have added what 15 grams of weight, what were you thinking lol! |
I have jerseys that have a zippered pocket for my phone built in. I think I got them from Performance Bike online.
|
Don't wear bike jerseys. A bento bag, small handlebar bag or a seat bag seem to work fine.
|
BITD, bike jerseys had buttons on those pockets :50:
|
I keep the phone in a neoprene glasses case (found on the road side).
It stays in place in the jersey pocket & also keeps the phone dry. I dislike scraping my hand on velcro pockets, & repeated washing may cause issues, but hope it works for you. |
Make sure you close up the velcro when you wash your jersey or the hard loop side can ruin things. I've a couple jerseys with zippered pockets. Hincapie and Rapha come to mind.
|
I agree with the above posts re zippered pockets and caution when washing anything with velcro.
A zippered pocket is the best solution but some phones are too big. 7Mesh has some excellent products with large, zippered pockets. Velcro tends to pill the fabric and ruin other garments in the wash. At a minimum, I'd wash anything with velcro in mesh wash bags designed for delicate items. -Tim- |
No velcro for me. Instead I have this on both bikes for carrying my iPhone.
Handleband - Universal Smartphone Bar Mount |
Be sure to close the velcro tabs on gloves before they go in the wash. That stuff really will snag a jersey.
|
I've never had an issue with my phone coming out, but it's fairly small (iPhone SE).
|
turn the phone sideways, so it's length goes into the width of the pocket.. much snugger. The jersey will stretch to accommodate.

Sew it on, the sticky back will fail. An alternative, if you're sewing anyway, install a zipper.
|
why not some velcro inside the pocket (stuck or sewn on.. whatever).. and matching piece (the soft side) on your phone case (or on a ziploc baggie if you use one)?

Uh - That sounds to me like the glasses case must have fallen out of somebody else's pocket. Why are you so sure it's going to stay in yours?
Interesting theory, but if things found on the roadside must have fallen out of someones pocket then what about the 12" crescent wrench... or the sleeping bag? |
+1 on closing the Velcro to wash, stuff gets stuck to it
Can fray some materials. I turn inside out too. Working ok, a little of a pain to get ph out, in my blind spot. (But that was the purpose) Washed ok, watching for sticky bond failure. (Wonder if the iron on stuff is tougher ?) Sew in a zipper ??? . I was barely able to use the self sticking stuff . :) LOL. My ph is a Tank, iph7 the big one, in an otter box on a belt clip holder (tough on phones) |
