Safe to keep frame-mounted CO2 cartridges in contact with down tube?

I bought a Birzman Sheath Apogee combo frame pump/CO2 inflator with a mounting bracket. Unfortunately I wasn't thinking about how my bike's down tube is wide rather than cylindrical and therefore the CO2 cartridges touch the frame. Is it safe to leave them that way or should I move the bracket to the seat tube?

Just put a piece of tape or two between cartridge and frame to protect it. It will probably be okay.

Perhaps you could make use of a couple of bottle cage spacers under the bracket to gain more clearance? Problem solvers makes them, some bike shops may have them or you could make some. Just a thought

Whenever I've needed bottle cage spacers I've disassembled a chain link to use the rollers. They are the perfect size.

That is very true Retro Grouch, the chain rollers have a perfect sized hole in them for the 5mm bolt to pass through and they are thin enough that you can adjust to just about any height you might need. Takes three of them to equal the typical height of the commercially available one piece spacers. As long as you have an old piece of chain around you can make lots of them, put them in an empty small medicine bottle and have them ready when you need them.

#10 stainless steel washers are dirt cheap, and perfect for 5mm screws.

Duh, I should have thought about using some washers. I was even at the hardware store twice this weekend and it didn't occur to me. Might need longer screws too, I'll have to see what I have.

Wrap some old inner tube around your CO2 canisters and keep them snug against the downtube might be a better option, because unless they are mounted with a really rigid mounting platform, that mount is going to vibrate as you go through rough roads causing the canisters to vibrate against the downtube as well.
