What are these, tools or something else?

Picked these up in an estate sale of bicycle stuff and have no idea what they are...

Those look like different kinds of stabilizers for the handlebars when the bike is on a stand. Maybe a stand?

Handlebar bag supports

Yup. The simplest one (on the bottom) is for a handlebar bag with either elastic or nylon straps to the fork. The middle one is missing a clamping mechanism which negates the need for the straps and the top one (with the red tips) supports the bag from the bottom.

Same handlebar bag support that came with my 1970s era Kirtland Tour Pak.

Hang onto 'em. You'll find people wanting to buy those. The bags and support racks often get separated.

Thanks! I spent untold time trying to find answers, should have come to the experts first. Likely posting these as a lot on eBay, no value to me but I’m sure, as canklecat says, someone out there would value these.

+1
Bag supports that fit over the bar and wrap under the stem. One is generic for any typical strap on touring HB bag, the other two are specific to bags where the arms slip into pockets made for them

I've found my 35 year old handlebar bag but couldn't find the support hangers. I sure can use one of those. At Home Depot I purchased a metal rod but haven't gotten around to bending it into shape.

I hate the handlebar bags that are sold nowadays. It takes too much fingerwork to thread the straps through those buckles and the bag hangs too low. The bag rubs against the front wheel. I know if I buy and install front fenders that'll solve the problem. But I don't want to keep purchasing stuff for my 35 year old bike just to solve a previous problem.

MacGyver paper clip art.

thumpism 03-21-18 08:10 PM

Bottom one fits many Eclipse handlebar bags and probably some Cannondale. Middle one looks like Kirtland and missing a piece.

Gresp15C 03-21-18 08:17 PM

They're hock locks.

TimothyH 03-21-18 09:57 PM

Whatchamacallits.

Only missing the little bungee cord. Easily replaced. Or the rack mount could be zip tied or made somewhat theft resistant by threading some wire and locking bolt through those eyelets.

For Eclipse users who don't like the straps to the front eyelets, there's the option of using a rubber-and-wire twist tie from the hardware store from D-ring around the stem and to the other D-ring.

the one in the middle is missing parts used to clamp it over the bars

the other 2 rely on gravity, can bounce, unless elastic cords pull it's bag down. (as shown above)

Describe them as possibly Calder wire sculptures. :D

mcours2006 03-22-18 10:54 AM

Wait, you bought them without knowing what they are??:foo::lol:

canklecat 03-22-18 01:12 PM

Looks like Nitto still offers similar handlebar bag supports that weave around the stem and bar. At least one version supports the bag from the bottom, which might be simpler than my old Kirtland Tour Pak that required threading the support bars through fabric loops in the bag.

It was mentioned that it was an estate sale. I'm guessing it was probably sold as a box of parts all together or something like that, and not individually.

I have the bottom right one for my Eclipse handlebar bag. It also works well as a keyboard holder when Zwifting.

Exactly, clearing out a basement, lots of bike stuff, these were the last bits that we could not identify. Stoked that you guys solved the mystery! Might just turn up on eBay...
