Made In China
So i just ordered these. Did i do well ?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/XPEDO-TI-TI...53.m2749.l2649 :foo: |
looks like China is moving up the value ladder by pumping out all sorts of titanium and carbon bits.
|
Lets us know...
|
How will you know they are really titanium?
|
I assume you chose titanium because of perceived weight savings. But seller states no weight, so how will you know? and everything titanium, or just the pins?
You can get RF chester or similar composite pedals for under $50 and they likely are not much heavier, if at all. |

Just the spindle is titanium. If you want to test it, you could take it to a bench grinder and see what color the sparks are.
I didn`t buy them because the axle is titanium, i bought them because they were pretty much the lightest flat pedals i could find online. |

So each pedal is the weight of two packets of crisps.
My pedals are heavier than a potato... |

So let me think...when was the last time I gave thought to how heavy my pedals are?....
Umm....uhh... I believe like, never. |
I've test everything about them when they arrive. Weight, materials, bearing quality, etc and see how they match up against the description.
There's a ton of these off brand Chinese made pedals on Amazon that are absolute garbage. There are no marketing standards in China for overseas sales. They don't have to be the materials or weight they claim and often aren't. $75 seems steep for imported off brand untested pedals. |
I read on this forum that titanium is just glorified steel and the quality of the material has a wide standard of deviation when it comes to quality.

I think I am in the quantity over quality camp. I donīt baby my rides because I got them cheap. A new handcrafted in China seapost at Performance costs more than the amount I paid for some of them. So vintage steel is better than handcrafted in China titanium.:p

Titanium has one specific benefit over steel in that it does not corrode, which could be of interest to someone whose bike is exposed to salt brine and might otherwise end up with seized pedal spindles.

Pretty sure all "Titanium" parts are actually an alloy. 6Al4V is a common alloy, which is 90% titanium, 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium.

it would be interesting to see if it is all Ti or alloyed with other elements.

Since when is Xpedo an "off brand untested pedal"?

Well they landed. Took 14 days from China to Norway. Opted to pay the $3 something shipping cost instead of the freebee horseback carriage ride to get them a few days faster. The seller did as i asked and marked the shipments value at $25 so i could escape any import fees (sssssh, don`t tell anyone) They came in a transparent squared off blister pack type of thing with the manufacturers waste band label (wellgopedals.cn) Fancy sticker saying "titanium axle" and some very fancy ID stickers to look the part, everything in chinese text. As i suspected, the pedals were very small in size (no i didn`t check upfront) and clocked in at 195 grams. They certainly looked very nice and the axle felt very tight to the touch, not much play. They do look very small on the bike, so they could be ideal for smaller (chinese?) feet or women who often have smaller feet than men. I would not consider these suitable for a fully grown man, better off buying something bigger with any weight penalties that would imply. Don`t laugh now but i am also considering getting some 15mm titanium pedal extenders. Mainly to help support the outside of the shoe that pushes. They`re only like $13 and supposedly weighing in at 24 grams. You know where to look
