Problem with Speedplay Ultralight Action cleats

For the last two rides the left cleat doesn't always want to unclip. I looked at the cleat and the C ring is trying to turn like its trying to close the opening. These are cleats I had on my 8 year old Sidis and installed them on a new pair of Sidis. The right cleat is not causing any problems.
Any thoughts?

The c clip should turn until it hits the float adjustment screw, is there still the tab(on the right side of your photo). If it rotates freely and thats why it doesn't unclip the they may have broken off. If thats the case buy the new walkable cleats which are so much better

The tab is still there. The only change is moving them from the old shoes to the new shoes.

Lube the cleats with White Lightening chain lube.

I recommend you take the cleats apart and clean them with thinner or OMS and a toothbrush or similar. (Score a mark on the screws and slots so you can put them back together where you had them!) The groove where the C-clip rotates gets gunked up with dirt and lube and Mook and whatnot after a while. . Then lube them with a dry lube and put them back together. Make sure you torque to the correct spec!

I give my speedplays a shot of dry lube before every ride. I use the Speedway spray dry lube, but any dry lube will do. Always use a dry lube!

They give you adjustable float. Very precisely adjustable. Some people need that for one biomechanical reason or another. (For me, having my feet clamped in one position cause all sorts of knee pain, but too much float was a different sort of problem. The speedplays let me dial it in to exactly what I need.)

From what I see when riding with others, they are the easiest to clip in and out of. Actually you don't really clip in at all, you just pedal and it just happens.

And the float thing that Wheever mentioned.
