I bought a sweatvac for the very reason you state.,,,,, tan marks in the pattern of my helmet holes on my bare dome. It fit well under my existing helmet. Maybe mine wasn't as snug.

Added benifits I found was that it channeled the sweat away from dripping in my face and eyes and the cooling effect from evaporation while moving at speed seemed to be better than with my bare head in helmet.

Old school solution: cycling cap with a brim under the helmet. Pace hats are US made, I like mine. I wear it brim forward, here Coppi is wearing it to keep his neck covered (I guess):

What I hate is how sunscreen seems to make all the sweat come out of the places it isn't. Also averbenzone stains light colored clothing orange-pink if you're ever so foolish as to try to use a oxygen bleach to get the last evidence of trail mud out of a wicking fabric.

Made myself a helmet cover... on hand stretch fabric was black so it looks kind of dorky, but my ride itself makes that impression inescapable anyway.

Last ride also added a headsweats and seemed to like it, though it wasn't the hottest day.

Just got a long sleeve breathable top I'm going to try, and seriously looking at one of the add-on helmet brims too, though kind of thinking I'll make my own and try to find a way to make it collapsable if I want to take it off towards dusk. Also probably going to do a back-of-neck curtain thing.

There was a while I was considering doing some kind of awning over the helmet vents raised an inch or so that would shade them while still letting air through...

Shop around; these have no business costing 20 bucks since they're nothing but a length of fabric tube. Get all sweated up and pull off into the shade for a minute, take the thing off and flap it in the air a few times and it's all but dry. They're surprisingly warm in cold weather, too, and when they say "multifunctional" they mean it.

I am not folically challenged but I do wear cycling caps and highly endorse people wearing them for many reasons. For folks like you it will help with the sun but it also keeps the helmet cleaner and avoids using stuff that could potentially degrade the foam. Plus there are so many designs out there so you can find something you like pretty easily.

Get larger bandannas or women's kerchiefs and scarves. Nobody will care. Just pick a pattern that suits you. Cheaper than caps and purpose-made cycling doodads. I have a couple dozen so I always have a fresh one. The longer tails allow knotting them lower near the neck, clear of the helmet.

If it's good enough for famous mountain specialist Sir Ben Kingsley, it's good enough for you.

The trick is to tie the ends closer to the neck, below where the helmet sits. This varies with helmet design. Some mountain bike helmets project lower on the back of the skull. Some commuter or skateboarder/skater helmets have more space at the back. Most road helmets are somewhere between the two.

Since I have long hair I have to switch from the man-bun to a regular ponytail before putting on my helmet. I was wearing the Rey samurai style double and triple bun long before she was a twinkle in George Lucas' imagination. But it doesn't go with bike helmets.

Though I wear a traditional bandanna I really should wear something that covers my full scalp. I'm not bald, per se, but very thin on top. That being said, I will likely the Helmet Liner with Sun Protection SPF from Aero Tech Designs, as I recently purchased from them for the first time this week, very happy with the quality and performance of the cycling shorts I purchased (I'll never skimp on shorts again!). Also, all of their products (they sell limited items from other brands) are made, BY THEM, in Pittsburgh in the good ole USA!

Get a hat, any hat that suits, or alternatively get a skull cap.

I wear a cycling cap under my helmet and I have a bunch of lightweight hooded fishing shirts
that work real good in super hot sunny weather
there are a few makers of the hooded shirts, can pick them up for 30-40 bucks
put the hood up and helmet on top, keeps the sun off your head neck and ears
long sleeves and very light weight breathable
you won't win any fashion statements but they do work very well

if you do any mountain biking, they work great in the woods keeping mud and sticks off your neck and down your shirt

i wear a hat and no helmet. its crazy i know but i have been helmetless for a couple of years now. its very liberating and my arthritic neck thanks me every day.

Another chrome dome here. I wear a bandanna under my helmet.

Cycling cap. My hair is buzzed (rather than fight the balding, I thought, "Oh, two can play that game, aging follicles!")

For me, it was just about the sweat stinging my eyes, but I'm sure it provides sun protection too. The cap soaks up the sweat, which then drips off the brim.

EDIT: Among the other suggestions, I've tried the Halo, but my sweat overwhelms it. (It also provides zero sun protection.) I assume a bandana or other brimless cap would similarly be overwhelmed by the rivers of sweat that pour from my head. Since diversionary irrigation is my main concern, the brim is essential for me.

[MENTION=482908]Speedoape[/MENTION] - I use caps. I've found that Giro Peloton and Ultralight caps and Pearl Izumi's "In-R-Cool" work well in the summer. I also find that keeping the bill down gives the sweat a place to drip that isn't on the inside of my glasses.

I'm not bald but I do have a receding hairline. For my birthday my wife got me some wicking do-rags to wear under my helmet. I haven't yet tried one since it's still been pretty cool on my morning rides, but on my next long ride I plan to wear one and try it out. I don't know how much the sun shines through the holes in my helmet but it ought to keep my head protected and the sweat out of my face.

I would put a covering over the helment instead of your head. You could also pin a hat to it.
