"First Real Bike" TV Commercial

Anyone see the GMC Sierra "First Real Bike" commercial?

https://ispot.tv/a/dV6A

The actor clearly never rode a real bike in his life. He would exhaust himself in ten minutes moving his upper body like that. The kid is awesome though.

Leaving that aside, I think it is pretty good and it reflects the growth in our sport.

Thereís a Disney J***or ad running right now with a girl riding her bike without training wheels for the first time, like, uh, Moana? Somehow? Still itís a good message. Courage and independence and learning. Not toxic truckulinity

I saw the GMC ad and thought that was pretty cool too. I was surprised to see it actually.
There's that one and Hennessy's Major Taylor ad as well.

This is really interesting. I had not seen it.

Cycling has exploded in the black comm***ty. Here in Atlanta it has become huge. Black guys on bikes everywhere.

Hennessey is clearly aiming for this market.

Weird

I had not seen the GMC ad until I clicked on the link. After watching it I put on the history channel and guess what was on?

Thank you for this. My friend is working toward getting her daughter off training wheels. Apparently the daughter watches Moana.

I absolutely hate the increased number of commercials we're forced to endure for network television these days, but at least advertising has stepped up its game and some of the ads are Ĺ way interesting. I've been posting some creative spots using good music on music threads. Here's another bike (and music) related commercial from Apple titled morning ride.

I had seen the "First Real Bike" commercial the other day for the first time. Had me wondering why the need to place the bike on a platform in the bed of the truck???

Continuity goof: On the bike the guy is wearing a red shirt, still has the same shirt on as he loads the bike into the back of the truck. When he sits down behind the wheel he's got a dark grey jacket on.

He blasted the AC after his hard workout climbing and wants to cool off his face but keep the body warm.

So how is this a goof? He is done riding and got chilled. Put a jacket on over his red jersey. Did you want to see a clip of him donning the jacket?

I had a very different take of that commercial. The kid riding the bike shows the pure joy of just riding for the ride. The adult doesn't. And what does a truck have to do with joy? I use mine to get me to where I can ride. I don't care about the "drive", I care about the ride.

And, finally, who in their right mind has a automobile that is worth more than their bicycle?

That was a waste of time.

The ad is about the truck, not the bike.

I have no interest in cars or trucks, its been decades since I have driven my own car with a bicycle inside.

I've seen that a few times and every time I have to comment to my wife how much it annoys me that he's bouncing around too much on the bike and that he either doesn't actually ride or isn't properly fitted to it, which in turn is annoying her.

That being said, I agree that it's nice to see stuff like that and the Major Taylor adds around.

Loving the Major Taylor ads.

Very surprising to see companies taking up cycling in advertising. I still perceive it as very "niche" in the US after the Armstrong fallout years. But maybe I'm wrong, maybe lots more people are picking it up again these days.

I'm especially surprised GMC chose a pure roadie look as opposed to a MTB or at least "dirt roadie" kind of thing.

I've noticed the same thing locally, that our cycling scene is picking up a very welcomed bit of diversity. I've even noticed some latino guys showing up to local fondos in matching Costa Rican team kit or in team kit of popular Latin American team members like Quintana.

Not as dumb nor as useless as you think. I don't want to start every ride from my front door. And sometimes you need to carry around more than one bike, if someone goes riding with you.

And, being a Colorado resident, there are other things that a 4 wheel drive truck can be used for that a sedan or pocket SUV (Toyota Ravs are an example) aren't capable of doing.

I don't know how REDMASTA thinks but I am guessing more dumb than I think. 4 wheel drive can be handy in some occasions but a massive truck is not. I can put a hitch on a car or roof racks and carry multiple bikes and most of the folks who own trucks don't haul anything but their egos anyway. I could see someone using it for contracting and hauling heavy stuff that makes some sense but a big bloated truck just to haul around a few bikes or nothing at all is just silly.

The Sierra is a gorgeous vehicle, especially the Denali. The 2019's are going to be bad ass.

You guys should stop into a GMC dealership next time you happen to be in the area. Not my style but it can't be denied that they are super nice.

At least the guy in the commercial wasn't riding a Denali bike.
