Teeny tiny "contest" with a teeny tiny prize.
Seriously. The prize is almost nothing.. just a token. But you'll find out what it is if you win it. But in reality, this "contest" is more about you guys.
To enter the contest, all you have to do is write a paragraph about what cycling does for you.
Post your paragraphs in this thread!!
Contest closes on Saturday, June 9th, 11:59pm

If it doesnt need to meet a paragraph as a requirement...
"What cycling does for me, it provides me with a better quality of life after each experience"

Ah yes, cycling! My only opportunity to wear clothes tight enough to make me look like a disproportionate gaudily colored sausage on the verge of exploding at the seams. It allows me to spend inordinate amounts of money I haven’t yet earned on bits of alloy and carbon fiber that resembles a mode of transportation. Sometimes I tell myself that I am exercising and giving myself the benefit of a cardio workout. But let’s face it, all I’m doing is playing out on the streets playing “dodge-em” with errant, rage filled drivers aiming to score points. It gives me the benefit of being friends with the UPS, USPS, FedEx delivery people…the only stable relationship I ever had.

Cycling has caused me to seek out information on the internet about cycling. Almost 5 years later I check out this one bike website every day. In the meantime I bought 5 more drop bar road bikes. I'll admit I've bought 1 too many helmets, glove and shoes that match different jerseys. On the other hand I've lost 45 pounds, started eating healthier and found a beneficial outlet for life's challenges that's led to so many I know to look for their outlet at the bottom of a bottle.

Cycling lets me use the skills I carefully and wondrously learned as a child to keep me healthy as an adult. Physically and mentally, as I still ride over the the same roads I did those many years ago.

Even if we don't win do we get participation trophies? I don't want to feel like a total loser if I don't win. I have plenty of other reasons to feel like a total loser.

Riding isn't all about winning, the personal gain is set by the individual. If you feel a reward is needed, realigning your expectations & goals may provide more than just an e-trophy...

Cycling has enabled me to foray into the job that I'd always wanted when I was young, well, sort of. In my teens I'd wanted to become a car mechanic. I loved everything about cars, and so naturally I wanted to work with them, take them apart, put them together, modify them. But my father, who was an immigrant blue-collar worker himself, didn't want his son to come home from work everyday with dirt and grease under his nails, so he discouraged me from doing it.
Fast-forward a few decades, a university degree, then another, a marriage, and three kids later I came back into cycling and discovered that I could be that mechanic after all. In addition to all the health-related benefits that cycling brings, it has also brought me joy in being able to take apart a machine, put it back together, test it out, modify it, test it out again. It has given me the job I'd always wanted to do. It pays me nothing. In fact, sometimes it can be quite costly, but I wouldn't change a thing.
Yeah, I know. That's two paragraphs.:shrugs:

Mr. Sedentary here. All my adult life I've always hated exercise. I've always hated the thought of exercise. But I knew that I really needed to get regular exercise, and the guilt of not exercising weighed heavily on my mind especially whenever I'd read an article about how regular exercise improves your health and longevity. But I still didn't feel motivated enough to do anything until the summer of 2015 when I realized all my 2XL T-shirts were getting tight on me. I pulled out the bathroom scales, stepped on them, and was shocked to see my weight at 280. I knew it was time for change, so I pulled my old mountain bike out of the shed, cleaned it up, and tried to start riding. I was right, exercise sucked. I could barely push that heavy Walmart BSO down the street, but I kept at it. I then got a decent hybrid and the difference was between night and day. The new bike was a joy to ride. I started looking forward to the next time I could get on my bike. Going on long rides was something I looked forward to. I challenged myself to go further. I completed my first 20 mile ride. Then a half century. Then a metric century. Then a full century. And I still want to get out every morning and ride 10 miles before work. So in short, what has biking done for me? Basically saved my life. Certainly given me more years, because along with changing the way I eat it's had quite the positive impact on my health. I no longer dread exercise, I look forward to it. I want to be healthy, and I love being healthy. And being 58 pounds lighter (and counting) than when I started, I certainly feel a lot better.

Cycling allows me to get to work and back, go to the grocery and go camping without driving. It also allows me to be much healthier at 61 than I would otherwise be. Best of all it allowed me to meet my long time partner!

I loved biking when I was a kid. My parents would let me go off and I would be gone for hours. It was liberating.
In college biking became my main mode of transportation. I didn’t have a car yet but my vintage Schwinn with the zebra handle bar tape got me to and from.
Now biking is what keeps me moving. In 2015 I dislocated my right knee. In 2015 I dislocated my left knee. My bones are crooked. It’s genetic. Doctors say if I buff up my thigh muscles I shouldn’t have to worry about any more dislocations. What is a better way to beef up thighs than cycling!! The thrill from childhood is still very much present. But now, biking is providing me with a freedom I never thought would be on the table. I am grateful.

I discovered my inner Daniel Boone. To not to be afraid to explore. What's down the street, across town and on forever if you are not afraid to go and see.
