6 I ride them all for slightly different purposes. If I could do it over again I'd combine the best attributes of some together and have just 3 to reduce ownership costs.

I think 6. Plus a Trek 400 frame I really need to do something with. Let me check my signature line when I post this though

Gravel bike (Mazama)
2 Touring bikes (Trek 520 and rebuilt old Scott MTB)
C&V Schwinn
Road bike (Univega)
Fatty (Big Jon)

I've actually been going the other way, pairing down some to diversify more in the future. Still need a proper MTB. Gravel bike largely replaced the road bike, I'm considering whether or not I should just get rid of it. Recently gave away a beautiful old Miyata Triple Cross I rebuilt to my brother, because it never got ridden.

EDIT: Crap, forgot about the folder, although that is ripped apart for refurb right now and hasn't really been ridden.

Three for me, plus one that was given to me, but is not rideable, plus another one that's out on more or less permanent loan.
All total there are ten bikes for a household of four people.

Too many. I would like to go down to one vintage road bike, one modern and one MTB. That would be the perfect combo. But I'm too attached to all my bikes.

Six. A Specialized Tarmac. An unbranded carbon fiber cafe bike that I built. A Schwinn GS Sport that I have built as a gravel bike/tourer. It is undergoing an upgrade right now. A Burley tandem. A Giant hardtail MTB and an Ibex dual suspension.

I sold a set of shifters to a middle-aged gent who told me he had 30 bikes, give or take. Yes, 30. He said he had them all over his house. Wife must be really understanding.

I have 5 bikes and 4 projects for myself (3 of which have frames but need other parts or work and 1 which needs a frame a few small parts) and another bike going to a friend and a touring bike I am building up for someone else. I need to fix up some stuff and get out riding more.

14 total, 4 on permanent display. 3 ridden as the need dictates (daily rider, touring/commuting, cruiser/commuter). the others are in various states of disassembly. Two frames not included in the count as they are not complete bikes. The frames I brazed myself and are awaiting vintage parts.

3 bikes, but I warn you, don't get carried away. Though I own 3 bikes, I only use one bike 99% of the time. Planning to give away one of my 3 this summer to my cousin who lives in downtown Chicago, and is currently riding a girl's bike that is too small for him.

I know there is this concept of the backup bike, or the beater bike, or the trail bike, but except for a small minority of people, most folks can more than get by with 1, at most 2 bikes.

I have bought and sold a number of bikes over the years including:
A mid 80s Schwinn LeTour Luxe. Thought I would really enjoy going vintage, with downtube shifters. After a couple of years, I went back to my bike with indexed shifting.
A Bianchi Milano - It was so pretty in black and celeste. And I thought I would enjoy the IGH. But in the end while the bike was pretty, the ride was just sluggish. My wife felt the same so out it went after a couple of seasons.
A vintage Trek 930 - Thought I would enjoy a vintage, American made Trek as a back up bike. Only rode it maybe 4 times in 2 years. So I sold it last year.
A Kona Blast mountain bike - Thought maybe I would dip a toe into the mountain biking scene, or use it for gravel trails. But the only person I know who does mountain biking is my son, and literally a few weeks after I bought my Kona, my son told me he was quitting his mountain biking team. So, maybe I will get to try mountain biking again, but as of now, I have ridden the Kona exactly once in a year. And for gravel trails, I found my Salsa Casserol works fine for what I want to do. I am not ready to sell the Kona yet, but I may if I don't ride it this year.

2 bikes is enough for me. One heavy touring bike tricked out as a commuter (but ready to go into service as a touring bike when I have time) that I ride 99% of the time, and an ancient cargo bike that I use when the main bike doesn't have enough carrying capacity.

Four.

A road bike, gravel bike, and two cyclocross (one I use exclusively as a trainer). I plan on selling the other cyclocros (FELT F55X) sometime soon.

6 in rotation, 4 under build, the boneyard in the garage contains 8 or so at any given time.
As a hobby I fix up throw away bikes and give them to local kids that need em. I can usually get an old frame up and running with decent components for under $30 thanx to the boneyard. Keeps me busy

I got 5, but 1 is for sale as it is repetitive.

- Road / Touring / Commuter Bike
- Gravel Bike
- Modern Mountain Bike
- Inexpensive vintage mountain bike for groceries and locking up at places

I could combine some of the bikes, but nah.
