Dual-purpose cycling sunglasses
 

I'm after a new pair of sunglasses for general use for things like holidays in hot and sunny countries, but I also want to wear them for cycling.

I do have a pair of custom Oakleys which look fantastic for cycling and they improve vision in bright sunlight. However, they're a bit OTT for walking in.

Hence, I'm after a more 'normal' looking pair that I can wear for any activity in the sun and they won't look out of place.

^ Yeah, so I'm trying to get the best of both worlds and prepared to pay a bit more for one pair of sunglasses that I can use for cycling and for vacations in sunny climes, rather than having to buy two pairs.

I've been looking at the Oakley site and there's a range of Performance Lifestyle sunglasses that would probably work as they're less radical in design than their Sport Performance range:

I like these Liberty sunglasses from Lenscrafters. They also come with black frames. These are bifocal blended lenses and I like them very much. I used to wear a pair of Carrera metal frames, but did a pavement faceplant, got banged up and decided to go with plastic frames. The nosepiece is soft silicone and the ear pieces have a non slip grippy surface on the inside. I have a clip on mirror for these now. Google "Liberty Sport", other styles available.

Try these

I have some very nice cycling glasses but have found my Maui Jim's are as good and less "cyclist looking." Not cheap but my optometrists says they are the best lenses and they are the lightest sunglasses I've ever known. Over the years I have collected at least 12 pairs of sunglasses and the Maui Jim's are the best.

I'm a huge fan of Julbo. Their lenses are fantastic, better than Oakley IMO. I have four pairs, two for mountaineering, and two of the same model I use on the bike, called "Dust", which I can easily wear off the bike and not look like Dwight Schrute. Unfortunately, they are out of production now, and are pretty hard to find. Of their current models, the Montebianco has a bit more of a sporty look, especially with the removable side shields, but I think in all black they'd look fine off the bike. But really, you have to try them and see the difference their lenses make, even if they aren't what you want off the bike.

Edit: Just realized this model uses their Spectron 4 lenses, which is crazy dark, meant for mountaineering/bright snow/etc. You could try the "Paddle" or "Renegade", which look good for off the bike, but I'm not a fan of this style for riding (like Oakley Frogskins). I guess I'm lucky I found the ones I did before they stopped making them!

I wouldn't consider wearing any of my good sunglasses while I'm on my bike.

Bollé Anaconda

I've dumped expensive stuff snd taken to market stuff. I have my reasons.

One, im colourblind, and red bronze-timt stuff works nedt to highlight dangers i've missed in expensive glasses. Nothing has shown red lights like a 5pound pair.

Second, theyre disposable, and yet so aerodyna mic i dont tend to lose them off my hat at 50mph.

i have yellow-orange safety glasses for the winter. I have them for work but they illuminate the road a t noght.
