Harassed for locking up my bike...

I was harassed several times for locking up my bike to various poles in front of 552 Riverside Drive, NY, NY 10027. There were no nearby bike racks. I gave in and moved my bike. Apparently the residents of 552 Riverside are super snobby and don't want to see such a sight as a bicycle. Yes I know that's crazy. I live on the same block and that area had good lighting. I've had 2 bikes and 1 tire stolen so far. Can anyone please lock up an old beat up bike in front of this building to teach these snobs a lesson?

Thank you

Is this it?

The fence is likely private, the sign posts public.

But, if you are 1 block from home, why not just take your bike home? Choose your battles wisely.

I doubt anything will teach these people a lesson they don't want to learn. I think your real problem is that you live in NYC. You should move to a less populated place, preferably to a rural area. I'm not saying people will love bicycles and bicyclists when you get there, but there will be fewer people, which seems to be the root of the problem.

Next time put a note on the bicycle saying something like "leave this alone and tomorrow I will give you the antidote to the virus you just got infected with from standing here reading this note."

It's just knowing how to sweet-talk people like this.

Are you going to pay for my flight over there?

It won't be overly expensive for you to do that ... somewhere between $2000 and $3000 most likely.

I'll let you know how to get the money to me.

People who have never lived in NYC will never have a full comprehension of either the OP's frustration or what it is like to own and use a bike in NYC.

No thats no mine. There is a guard. Thats why I like that side of the block. My side there is no guard and they steal the bikes.

A lot of properties over here - presumably there too - now have signs on saying 'Bicycles chained to these railings will be removed.' or something similar. I read a story about someone who got very fed up with this and went around padlocking items of junk (an iron is the only one I can remember) to railings in response. I don't suppose it got him anywhere but I imagine it was quite satisfying - if rather expensive in locks and chains.
