Swollen sit bones :/

My bum either side of my perineum (upper leg, lower bum) is badly swollen, more on the right than the left. At the worst point its possibly 10x the size its meant to be with the inflammation. No discolouration, quite bad pain. Should I ice? I commute to work, 12km each way, 5x days per week so its difficult to take time off from riding. I want to shop for a new saddle but not sure if its worth doing while its so bad. I wear clean and fresh bib shorts, shamy cream, ive had a bike fit, riding since oct 2016, it pretty much always been uncomfortable and has slowly gotten worse since then. Im going to book a doctors appointment. Any suggestions? Should I ice?

Ice never hurt anything, but if you are developing a cellulitis, which is sort of what this sounds like, hot soaks would be more useful. Would I ride on that? Hell, no.

Good idea to let a doc look at it. If you develop a fever, that's an emergency.

Seems like a key question would be if this is a skin irritation, ie, your classic saddle sore.

Or if it's more like bursitis, ie, an inflammation of the cushioning over the bone.

Unless you feel like standing the whole way, finding another way to work for a week might be good.

That said, in college I knew a guy who at the campus police abandoned bike auction bought one with an odd contraption that was a sort of Y shaped seat post with a band of webbing spanning the gap to lean against. He was buying the rest of the bike, and planned to remove that oddity, but decided to try riding it first, and ended up leaving it on for a while.

Sounds like it might be one of the commercial implementations based on Dan Henry's prototype made out of an upside-down handlebar with some lawn chair webbing:

Quite probably. To my memory it was somewhere in between those two. I felt like the surface was at more of a 45 degree angle to the vertical, but it was a long time ago.

Definitely a conversation piece. I sort of remember the guy saying it was weird and maybe not confidence inspiring but rideable between campus and student dominated neighborhood.

Get thee to a healthcare provider for an evaluation.

See a Doctor, me thinks you will likely get better results from a medical professional than here on a bike forum.

A decent article I found worth reading....
