Nice spin, but utter nonsense.

I've got no problem with people owning and riding $3000 bikes. I don't think doing so makes them elitist. Claiming that the only real cyclists are ones with bikes worth $3000 or more would be an elitist attitude. So far as I can see, almost no one in this thread has taken that position seriously, so I'm pretty sure almost everyone posting on this thread is actually non-elitist.

Hello, fellow hollow people!

I think you're really describing a sort of reverse snobbery that claims that real cyclists don't fall for the sales hype, and that all those who buy expensive equipment value the status value of their equipment more than they do biking. OP is a great example of that, despite his token "gross oversimplification" disclaimer.

People who feel superior merely because they have an expensive bike (if there are any such people, for which OP has offered no evidence) are not any worse than people who deride people with expensive bikes (of whom there are many around here, as regular stupid threads like this one show).

Thread unfortunately plays out like a days-long argument between Francis Buxton and Pee Wee Herman.

So true. My bikes range from $30 Craigslist finds ridden in jeans and street shoes, to crabon aero whatever with polka dot bar tape carefully chosen so as to match my polka dot bib shorts, and a bunch of options in between.

Looks like that seatpost is bent. Or was that a custom, elite bend?

Seriously? You have never heard of a swept back seat post? BTW...The builder will make you a custom ti seat post and/or stem if you want to pay the price.

I think the frame was a bargain. Only $3,500, not including the ceramic glaze finish, which was done by a third party for another $300 or $350.

Stem should be flipped. Would not ride...

Took the photo after its maiden voyage. 12 miles home from the builder's shop. The stem ended up being exchanged because the two-bolt design was not strong enough. Notice the bars are a bit tilted down.

If IndyFab's Fab Ti fit me, i would ride it .... gladly. The frame, drive train, and wheels mean more to me than the stem. Also ... i don't buy a bike for looks, so the stem is whatever stem puts the bars where they fit my body .... people who only ride slammed because that's how the racers do it ... are free to go that route.

I'm sorry, I didn't understand your last post. How do you fit the bars on your body? What do you mean by "people who only ride slammed" - do you mean drunk? If so, I find it hard to credit that riders on the TDF, for example, drink alcohol whille riding, except, of course, on the last day, but even then they don't career down the Champs-Elycées knocking back bottles of champagne.

Actually, there were spacers under Tom Dumoulin's stem on this Giro d'Italia -winning mount. I was surprised they let him race.

The funny thing is, I can't even recall seeing anything, or hearing anything which goes along the lines of "my bike costs xxxxx, your bike cost x, therefore me and my bike are superior to you". On the contrary, I've seen multiple posts on this site alone deriding people for getting an expensive bike, or expensive bike parts, and that they are fools for "wasting" money.

I was in France for work this month. I brought home a souvenir from the TdF that is SURE to get some jimmies rustled on the local "A" group ride. I plan to wear it anyway. I'm a fan, it's fun, I love polka dots whatever they're supposed to mean or not mean. It looks cooler than some pale blue overpriced fancy cycling kit from "overpriced pretentious company ABC".

So long as people aren't dicks and act safely, I don't care. What are you going to do anyway? Can't wear a yellow jersey because it's the winner/leader's jersey. Can't wear green because you aren't a sprint winner. Can't wear white and light blue accents as you aren't the best young rider award winner. Can't wear polka dots because you didn't win the KOM. Can't wear pink or red because of the Giro and Vuelta leaders.

****, what's left? Beige?

Don't let others ruin your fun.

A lot of those fans don't even ride for fitness over in Europe. They're still 10x the fans many of us are.

Graeme Obree went out in the rainbow stripes to drink and get beer stains on it, and wouldn't wear it riding. But, said he loved seeing people ride along in his stripes.

"It's grand to see those jerseys being worn by amateurs out for a ride, it shows a real appreciation for what is an iconic symbol of our sport. Instead of being all precious about it, we should be thankful that people still want to wear these jerseys after all the drug-taking that's gone on in the sport."

You won't hear that in real life since there are actual repercussions for being an ass to total strangers, sometimes those repercussions are physical. The internet persona is bold.

The bent seat post comment was a joke. I know exactly what it is. I'm on your side - chill!

Did you notice the seat tube collar is on backwards? The builder put the slot in the front to lessen the chance of grit and water getting in.

I have the post clamp/collar on backwards on all my bikes, regardless of where the slot is. Slot is covered by the clamp on my bikes so no issue there. I didn't think twice about it.

Sure. But that has nothing to do with the fact that I've never seen someone here with an expensive bike taunt someone with a less expensive bike, while we frequently see derisive comments about expensive bikes by those without one.
