Sunlite brand bike parts

So my $70 tange sieke square taper bottom bracket basically exploded on me after 6 months. One of the ball bearings in this sealed cartridge bottom bracket was literally cut in half. I have no idea what happened.

I go to the bike shop and the mechanic puts in a sunlite bottom bracket. I'm somewhat snobby when it comes to what I put on my bike so I looked at him cross eyed for a second but he assured me I would get 3-5 years on this BB assuming I don't ride in snow and rain all the time.

So does anyone know anything about the brand Sunlite other than they make inexpensive parts?

I've got a square tapered sunlite sealed BB on Junker (pronounced Yunker ya barbarians!!!) that's been on there for more than 5 years with no trouble. He's not my main ride so it may break down under use, but time will tell!

I heard they bought up patents for old parts or expired designs of r something and produce a whole lot of older-style stuff. Cassettes, BBs .... basic simple metal stuff. i don't expect you'd have any problems except when you get angry and go Hulk mode and shear steel ball bearings in half ... :O

Huh, I took this aspect forgranted, good catch!

So, what's the progress on those Brokkr forged Unobtanium bike components? Thinking next year?

tange seiki bottom brackets cost $15 max on eBay. Rough that yours cost $70.

I used a sunlite bottom bracket on a refurbish project to sell- it seemed perfectly fine. Sealed, smooth, and metal instead of plastic.
buy a bb tool for $15 and you can change your own next time for less.

Lol

I don't think my thighs played apart in the shearing. My thinking is that a scrap of metal must have gotten through the seal somehow or just that I got a clunker from the factory. Either way I'll probably just tell people I did it during a sprint and my BB just went limp.
