When did I EVER say a person is stupid if they dont ride a recumbent. And why not let people know how comfortable a recumbent really is. Care to screen the whole forum on saddle discomfort threads and which saddle to buy?

I believe you are referring to multiple personality or disassociative identity disorder. Many people think schizophrenia refers to that sort of issue but it doesn't.

No, there are no recumbents in your list of bikes, so the above conditions do not apply.

You better get that memory checked out. Once again, you're responding to the same post multiple times.

Dude, I ride a freaking huffy parkview. I have no room to throw stones without destroying the glass house around me.

You know you're in a bind and are trying to aim for better rather than :this is good.' To me the point is you are riding. Even if what you are riding is a stopgap, it is still letting you get out and go to an extent and capability you weren't before. So even if it would be better to buy a better bike? You're doing good as far as I'm concerned.

To the OP:

When I was slightly younger than you in about 1980, I was in college and had a minimum wage part-time job at an auto parts store in-between my apartment and the school. During high school I worked at a bike shop. I had bought a Viscount (very light frame) with bottom-end parts. I would save and wait until each part was deep-discounted, then buy it and add it to my bike. By the time I was done, it would have rivaled a $10,000 road bike today.

My younger brother took it and wrecked it, then lost it (long story). To make amends, he found or bought me a steel beater with bent wheels. I tore it down and rebuilt it, lubed everything, trued the wheels (mostly), etc. It was a sled, but it worked. Then took it to college.

I rode quite a few miles down a four-lane divided highway and up and down some hills to my job; also to class. Fast traffic, busy roads, some short but tough hills. Those were hard rides on a lead sled in 90*+ humid weather, usually wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt. My only personal gear was a helmet and biking gloves, and a flat repair kit with pump. I don't think I even had a water bottle. What did I have? College, a job, and a bike so I could get there and back!

So to your exact question: "is it okay for me to participate here and consider myself as being into cycling and bikes if I don't have a good piece of kit?"

And my answer: You have the best kit there is. Be confident enough that when someone offers criticism, you can just smile, waive, and keep riding.

What does matter to others in the group is how you ride. That is, if you can hold a line, maintain a constant speed, and in general you aren't doing stupid stuff that represent a danger to everyone around you. Speed and what bike you have matter a lot less.
And it matters not at all if you ride alone.

It's probably worthwhile to look at the date of the posts you respond to. You've now responded twice in this thread to posts that are more than 2 years old.

What's the deal with black sheep being baaad anyway? I'd think that would be some pretty nifty-looking wool.
