Help upgrading new SRAM 1x11 to 2x11

Riding roads on a 1x can be rough. I'd like to add a shifter, derailleur and 2x crankset. I have never owned SRAM hardware before and don't know tiers, compatability, etc. What are some good options for the shifter, derailleur and crankset? Hopefully with out braking the bank.

There's no braze on. I assume I'll need a clamp on derailleur.

If the bike came 1x11, there might be some issues trying to set up a front der. Imho.

The Tamland is designed to support front shifting, and there's another variant of the bike that comes with Force 22. On Raleigh's website, you can even see the empty cable stop braze-on on the downtube.

Keep in mind that you'll probably need to alter your rear setup as well. You're already at your rear derailleur's capacity limit, so with front shifting you'll need a new narrower-range cassette.
Also, your rear derailleur might actually not shift as well when front shifting is being used. SRAM's 1x groupsets use 1x-specific rear derailleurs, and they use a non-slanted drop-parallelogram geometry, like the Shimano derailleurs from before SunTour's patent expired back in the 80s. The design is very well-behaved in 1x setups, but front shifts affect where the derailleur's jockey wheel sits relative to the rear cogs, so rear shift performance can be degraded in 2x and 3x setups. If this ends up creating trouble, you could switch to a Rival 22 WiFli rear derailleur.

What all are you trying to accomplish here? Are you looking to change your overall gearing range (and in what ways?), or just tighten gear spacing without sacrificing range?

Thanks for the detailed reply, I didn't realize it would be that involveinvolved. My issue is that the setup on my tamland is awesome off road, but to slow for me on road. I have considered just changing out the chainring and it sounds as though that may have to be the direction I go.

The rival1 rear mech won’t work (well, if at all) in a 2x system, so budget for a new rear mech, too. The rear shift lever will work the same.

if you swap out the rear mech, you’ll need a smaller cassette, as there is no rival 22 rear mech that will fit a 42t rear cog.

Might be able to make it work with a roadlink + longer chain

Might almost be cheaper to just buy a whole new groupset and be left with a few spare parts.

Thanks for all the info. I'm gonna stick with it, maybe play with chainring tooth count. I like the 1x I put on my XC bike, just need to get used to it on this bike.

Why not ?
Not enough chain wrap with existing cassette and double rings ?

The clutch mechanism and upper pulley design won't allow for enough forward/down movement of the cage at once that a front shift would require. You'd need one of these:
