Fork flex when closing wheel
Heres a little head scratcher .....
How much should a carbon fork or any for flex side to side when closing up a wheel .do you have a carbon fork or others that move a bit when puttin your wheel on **********??? One of my forks seems to move a bit more than others i have . would suck for it to fail on ride , let me know your thoughts . |
You're referring to flex when you close the quick release?
That suggests to me that the axle spacing is too narrow. Put a washer under the locknut on each side to make the axle spacing match the fork end spacing. |
On my Cervelo, I would guess that when inserting the wheel into the fork, there's probably ~5mm of space between dropouts and hub that the fork "flexes" to take up when tightened down.
This seems to be fairly common with carbon forks. |
The fork is too wide(over 100mm, for example) or the hub is too narrow(under 100mm, for example).
Its really common for them to fit perfectly and its really common for there to be a couple mm of space. Every time I have seen there be too much space, its because the fork is wider than 100mm. Not at all a big deal- not even worth thinking twice about. |
I use mavic askium wheels for training on a madone 7.

https://www.trekchicago.com/how-to/c...care-pg193.htm Says no more than 2mm. Dunno whether the link is official Trek or not. |
