Holy cow! Yes, that IS a flat! I also carry the Park tire boot but I have never had to use it. I did use the dollar bill trick to get home once and then forgot about it and rode for a couple weeks with it in there.

I double flatted once on a road that is sometimes ridden by others, so I went back to find what had done it. Couldn't find anything, which is weird because I felt like I got launched by whatever it was, so it couldn't have been too small

Would duct tape or gorilla tape work?

@joecool gets the biggest boot of the year award! I didn't think a cut that big could be booted. But I was wrong... The park boots do work.

Haha, just the award I've always coveted.

I didn't think it could be booted either - and I was riding on tip toes all the way home, taking the most direct route.

I bought those Park Tool boot stickers last year as an insurance policy and have never had to use one.

Seeing how well it works even with MAJOR tire damage like that tells me that was $3 well spent.

It does work. You can also use a piece of the cardboard boxes that inner tubes come in. I've used those successfully.

This is the worst cut I've ever had. Not sure what I hit, but I felt it, the tire was flat, then I heard what ever it was hit the seatstays and bounced away. I tried a Park boot but it didn't hold, the tube came out the smaller of the 2 cuts and popped. That was a long walk home.

Count me as another fan of the Park boot. They are not super sticky, but the inflated tube seems to hold them in place against the tire really well. I had a slice about 2/3 as bad as the OPs. Mine was all the way across the tread, but not down the sidewall as far. Boot lasted me 6 miles to the nearest LBS so I could get another tire. It probably would have lasted longer if needed. I didn't feel like tempting fate the next 25 miles to home where I always have a new tire waiting. I always have a Park boot with me on rides.

even better? just cut up the self-seal flaps from these envelopes and you have some adhesive also working a little bit to hold in place.

Yes, very well, and it sticks too, so you don't have to worry about it staying in place. Wrap several inches of Gorilla tape around one of your tire levers. That and one or two of those prepackaged alcohol wipes can be very useful in the bag/kit.

Couldn't agree more. I'm constantly amazed at how many people don't carry them. They cost like .25, weigh nothing, and you can pack them anywhere. They're a no-brainer.
